I'm thinking of port matching the intake on an S&S manifold with a SuperE carb. How careful do I need to be on with the texture inside the manifold? I'm updating with an NRHS 1250 kit on a 2000 X1. |

A slightly rough texture is good, but irregular waves generally are not. Smooth enough that you can easily glide your finger across it without snags, slightly rough enough that your hand doesn't drag across it when slightly damp. |

Thanks Phelan, so when I'm grinding down the lip from the original machining, I should be careful not to dig into the inside of the manifold too much so as not to mess up the pebbled texture that came from the factory, right?

I was always told (rightly or not) that sandpaper texture is a good guideline...not too smooth, but not "catch a nail" rough either. |

yes, about 80 grit sandpaper is the texture you are looking for with a home porting job. |

Thanks everyone, that's exactly the insight I was looking for. |

Unless you are drag racing it, why would you use an S&S carb????> |

If he has an X1 with a carburetor, it sounds like he already has the Super E and/or it was installed by a PO that did a carb conversion. |

I'm taking it out on the salt to race at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I'm putting a big bore kit with new cams this year on her and port matching the manifold is part of that process.
