So how much would you pay for a 1996 S1 in good shape with PM rims. Catch is that it has no title. But it is a perfectly running machine. Would you be a player at $2500 with a bonded title?
I have a chance to buy this bike but can't decide if I want to keep it or sell it (or even bother buying it) Give your opinions at price w/o title and price with bonded title. |

Depends.....is it a museum piece that you want to put on display? Do you want to sort out the title and ride it? Are you thinking you can flip it for some cash? If you want it, and plan to ride it then "maybe" depending on how easy it is to get a title. If you can't get a title or its going to be a PITA....I'd say its a $1k bike. For $2500, there are plenty of nice S1's that pop up........of course they aren't all 96' models, but they do come with titles and you could ride them away with much less BS. Hate to see this kind of stuff for sale. Its awesome, but is it really worth the headache if you want to ride it? |

It looks to be an ok machine. Is the person selling it the person it was titled in and they lost the title? If thats the case its easy to get a replacement title just takes time. In MN a bonded title takes a long time and is a pain in the ars so I would not pay $2500 for it maybe 1800 if it was in good upkept mechanical order but otherwise its only good to part out so I unfortunately would maybe pay 1300 to 1500 max |

If you're looking for a flip...you're going to need a title. If you're looking to OWN, it may be worth chasing down the piece of paper. Was it titled to the seller but they lost the piece of paper? Have them pay the $25 for a reprint, problem solved. If it's an unknown history, or sounds shady...run, don't walk, away. |

Got a little more info from the guy... The bike is co-titled with his ex-wife. She wants to " him over" and won't release the title to him solely. I offered $1000 for the bike. We'll see what happens from here. I'd hate to see it sold as parts. But I also have to be realistic that it could come to that. And having parted out a few vehicles in the past, I've also found that I don't get as much as I thought and it takes 10x longer to get your money than you thought. |

If that is the case and you buy it be aware she can report it as stolen and you are in possession! If she wants to f him then she will most certainly not have an issue bringing you into it! |

Have him buy the bonded title. If she comes after it, bond company pays out. |

So I decided to take a chance. We'll see what happens. If I get it titled, I have to make a decision in the spring to keep or sell. I'd like to keep it but already have 3 Buells. And I've been trying to thin the herd for the past year (with no luck). |

Buy a frame and title, swap frame and press on! Looks like a beautiful S1! I do hope you don’t get caught in the drama of the divorce.... men solve problems swiftly, women solve problems through years and years of hate and discontent... I often think I should thin the herd... 6 Buells 4 Moto Guzzis 2 Triumphs 2 Harley’s ( damn things...) 1 Big Dog But every time I think I should really thin things out, I can’t figure out what I’d actually sell, and I know for sure that anything sold would be missed and I’d just replace it immediately!! Except the Harley’s, I’d sell them, but I’d replace one with a BMW and the other with a new Thruxton R.... see NO CURE.... |

"Buy a frame and title, swap frame and press on!" That's a good idea! That way if she reports it stolen, you'd technically have a different bike, the only thing they could take was the frame with the vin from the bike they owned. |

Unless you are in MN where the engine vin is also on the title |

...and the engine number is a portion of the frame VIN...that's how you can tell a "numbers match" vehicle... I believe Maryland also includes engine number on a MC title. |

I assume all of the bikes were made that way. I can't imagine manufactures making different VIN arrangements for different states. It was thinking about the number on the engine when I was typing it, but it didn't go along with my joke so I just proceeded without it. |

AFAIK, there's only one VIN on titles in TX and WA, and it's the one stamped on the steering head. |

Wisconsin only uses the frame VIN for registration. |

I feel like I should know the answer to this question but want to clarify. Buell had 2 different reds that they used in 1995-1996; Snap Red and Canyon Red. I'm going to make the assumption that the above bike is Snap Red. Is that correct? |

AFAIK, all the S1 models were Red Snap. There is no 95 S1. |

Thanks Hootowl!!!! I know the years of production for most of the Buell models. It was the color that I needed to confirm. |

IIRC "snap" red is bright, ferrari red. Canyon should be darker, with metal flake in it...if I'm remembering it right. |

I sure hope you can get the title resolved through the “ex”, this looks like a really nice S1 and it would be a shame to have to take drastic measures with it or against it..... Good luck!!!! |

I bought it from another BwB not the ex. But I did get a title. Now I'm waiting for a CHP vin verification so I can tag it in Cali |
