I bought one for my S2 from Branon White off the Tubeframe Buell group on facebook. You may shoot him a message through messenger, he had another one that was stock on the S1, stamped end plates without the reinforced end.

Were the s2 and s1 shocks the same?

S2, had solid aluminum end plates with what looks to be a reinforced end/eye. S1/S3 WP shocks werent heavier at the end, just a welded eye, and there were stamped steel spring plates. There were two of these types, one with what looks to be a longer spring, and one with what looks like a shorter spring. I put the longer spring one on my S1W. I sent it to race tech and had it rebuilt and gold valved. It was expensive, by the time i bought the shock and had race tech go through it, i think i could have had a twin cycles shock lol.

essentially they were all the same spring rates and exposed spring, just three different variations WP shocks from what I can tell, no real explanation of why that i could find searching badweb.

He has the "shorter/longer" springs in this picture. Shorter on the left, longer on the right. Notice the length of shock sticking past the spring toward the front reservoir. Also notice the different spring coils/progression.

Here the two are on some stock photos:

heres the S2 shock (its had a failure in this picture) but you can see the heavier end plates and the more stout end/eye.

The end of the shock body where the rod goes in on the rubber stopper end, has a four digit date stamped into it. My "S2 style" shock said 07/95, my longer spring "S1 style" shock said 11/97. So i think they are probably pretty close to correct. I would like to know the story on these variations though.

Thanks Ken. Were all the S1 shocks the same, regardless of year? I'd like it to be correct.

"X1 swing arms have a different alignment position and will not align with stock front shock mount."

First time I heard that, from the ebay listing. I see people swapping to the newer swingarms all the time and haven't heard of anyone having alignment issues.

Probably referring to the different shock lengths that are available for different years and recalls. If you've got the right shock for your front mount, you're golden, regardless of whether you have a steel or aluminum swingarm.

That shock on ebay is the correct shock for your bike.

I have to repair or replace my stock rear shock on my 99 S3T. I have already bought a second one and have had them rebuilt also once each. I'm wishing that they wouldn't die so soon. I don't race or ride that many miles? Mine have the metal can around them and are the longer of the two options. So, short of buying one from Twin Cycles, I had hoped that one of the popular aftermarket ones would turn up from a salvage or something? I saw that the ebay one did sell...
Any suggestions? Thanks

Bike arrived today. Sure is pretty. It’s missing the rear head heat shield, and some unidentifiable-by-me cover on the left hand control assembly. It has, from what I can tell, all of the big recalls. Shock, battery, isolators.

I sent a photo of it to my dear mother. Her first response was: “It looks like it’s missing part of the seat”.

That "cover" is for a control not used, by C.E.V., on American homologation products. Ducati used the same C.E.V. controls and may have used it.

Somewhere I had a box of those covers . . . Hoot . . send me a note and, if I run across the box, I'll send you a cover.
