The S1 and the XBs had the same angle bar clamps, so in general and handlebar risers meant for one, should fit the other. The other thing I used to see people doing on their XBs was to get a spare top clamp, flip it upside down, get longer bolts and some steel spacers. Did that make sense? I'm picturing it perfectly in my head. Not sure if it's translating well haha.

Anyway, as Ken said, the easiest option is just to get some spacers under the risers if yours are bolted on. You can also find some handlebars that just have a bit of a rise to them as well and not deal with any spacers. The stock S1 bars were pretty tall as it is.

that does make sense and I have heard of that. the top triple on this 96 s1 is not stock. I believe its BR (billet racing) who is no longer around. these bars mount directly to that top via 3 bolts per bar. there are two separate bars (similar to clip-on style). I'm pretty sure I can keep that top and add a spacer and some oem bars, or the like.

It looks like your gauges are still mounted to a piece that's similar to the original bar clamp, since the gauges normally mount to the part that holds the handlebars. It's hard to say without seeing what's under there, but I'd be willing to be you could make it work. At the very least, you could drill the top clamp and mount new bar risers on it and come up with a new mount for your gauges.

I did that on my old Triumph Speed Four, it came with clip-ons and clearly should've been sold with real handlebars. I bought a spare top triple clamp, drilled it, and bolted some risers to it with some reinforcement on the back.

If you find some actual S1 bar clamps it'll let you use original gauge mount, but parts like that can be hard to come by, and it might end up being cheaper if you buy normal bar clamps and make the gauge mount yourself.

I'm fairly certain the top triple has the gauge mount that's cast into it. I think the only difference is the bolt holes for the(BR)clamps.
Ill know more once I tear into it.
youre from 'da burg maiden?

It's hard to tell from the top, I looked at the original picture you posted and it really looks like you've got the provisions to mount a normal handlebar in there, but with everything being powder coated black, I'm really just picking out shadows. If that's the case, your easiest route is just to get a taller handlebar and skip dealing with any spacers. Then your gauges will still fit under the flyscreen properly too, since using handlebar risers would also lift up your gauges the same amount.

You are correct, grew up in cranberry, spent a week in Conneaut Lake every summer, moved to the city, and now live in Monroeville. We kept trying to make it up to Erie for the weekend this summer to go to Presque Isle, but couldn't fit it in. We usually talk about trying to go to Splash Lagoon in the winter too. It would be riding distance if we had bikes that were enjoyable on the highway, I feel like that would be a pretty unpleasant ride on an S1 haha. I've had this bike for over a year and a half and I don't think I've had it on the highway once. Same as you though, my bike has been parked for winter. I saw it's supposed to be 70 degrees on Sunday, I may try to squeeze in one last ride of the season, since my last day commuting on the bike got spoiled by me getting sick mid day, and having to have my wife pick me and the bike up with the truck.

heres what it looks like. i think ill jist try some oem bars and go from there. once i lower the forks, theyll slide right in.
of course ill have to check the static sag but im fairly certain this wasnt set up to begin with.

i know the area. used to take the boy to childrens hospital way back when. also know conneaut lake area. and if you get to splash, we built the addition there as well as the holiday inn express and (at the time) boston pizza.
the x1 isnt bad on the interstate. ive yet to take an s1 on it. i dont see it leavin the city though. thats what the x1 is for.

You have the original bar clamps on there so just get bars with the rise you want no need to buy separate risers. Lot of people go with blast bars

the original clamps is the piece that holds the gauges to the top triple? makes sense because I think I seen that one around. I don't believe the top triple (am I calling this right?)is oem because of the bar mounts which are cast into it.
blast bars huh? I think that would be too much rise. though, ive never sat on a blast..id have to research this...
and now that you mentioned it, I do recall my son installing some ROX risers on his M2. this put the gauges were way up there.
thanks for all the help guys

An alternative to Blast bars are S3 bars.

(Which are actually the same bars, but if they are called S3 bars they are cooler, have more power, and will make the owner more attractive, popular, and wealthier)

Put the bars on in addition to the clip-ons!

Nate-
That would be a grand idea, except I don't play drums.

You're right, your top triple clamp is not original, although will work perfectly fine as is, assuming the unused bar clamps don't bug you. If not, wait for a used S1/X1/S3 top triple to pop up online and get it powdercoated black.

I think your normal handlebars and controls will block that part of the top triple from your sight. You won't even be able to see those mounts when you're on the bike.

perhaps.
regardless, the forks will have to be moved back to stock position as they are in the way of the potential bars.
I was wondering why the forks were set at that height but after doing some research, I guess its a fairly common thing.
