Picked up this bike back in February, running. Shortly after it started giving me issues. Anyway, here's a timeline of the issues and its fixes:

-Rebuilt ignition switch (had failed, bike ran again)
-Replaced fuel pump with Walboro unit (0 fuel pressure, previous owner had replaced with cheap unit. Bike ran again.)
-Replaced Engine Temperature Sensor (threw a code for ETS, replacement cleared code)
-Replaced fuel pressure regulator (0 fuel pressure again, bike ran again after replacement)

-Bike stopped running.
-Took injectors out and to a shop for rebuild and clean. Shop said they were dirty with poor flow, after work they pass all tests and flow at 280cc.
-Replace intake seals with cometic gaskets while manifold is out for injectors being pulled.
-Still not running.

After reinstall was finished I attempted start and couldn't get it to kick over. With a little bit of throttle applied I got it to hold above 2000rpms, but once throttle was let off it died. Now I can't get it to start even with throttle.

I have double checked and fuel pressure is good. Spark was good when I tested just before removing the injectors. I also checked the timing at that point as well and it was spot on, so I don't suspect the CPS is bad. Does anyone have ideas on what to try or test at this point? I'm losing my mind with this bike.

If it were mine I'd do the gas, fuel filter, plugs and then reset the TPS and take it from there.
If the battery is ancient a new one might be a good idea, too.

Something clogged those injectors before, are they clogged again?
Fuel lines full of cheese?

Kind of in the Steve and Nate camp re fuel.

Might take stuff off so you can look at the throttle plate. Do a close visual inspection of it. While there, take a multimeter and check that the throttle position sensor is working.

That done, take a spray bottle with fresh gas, and spray that into the intake while trying to start the engine. An assistant may be necessary.

If the engine will run, and can be kept running with the spray bottle, you have eliminated ignition, compression, ect. The problem is somewhere in the fuel system.

Start from the beginning. Fuel pressure, then fuel lines in good shape, internally. Probably best to replace the fuel filter.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes, Dave

And, since you have had ign switch issues before, have you tried bypassing it? Dave

The plugs were replaced shortly after I bought the bike so they only have a little over 1000 miles on them. I took them out today, they looked okay. I cleaned them and regapped them anyway.

Fuel filter was replaced when the pump and regulator were replaced. Also checked fuel pressure today and there is pressure. I don't have a gauge but it fuel sprays out strong from valve when its depressed, leading me to believe there's no issue with the system pressurizing.

I reset the TPS again today, it's functioning fine as far as I can see in ECMSpy.

Tried starting again after the TPS reset and plug cleaning. Got it to run again with throttle at above 2k RPM. I kept it running for about 30 seconds. At that point I let the throttle dip and the bike died. I couldn't get it running again even with throttle.

I decided to check the maps and something weird was up with my spark timing tables. They were all zeros. I had been using a set of 'race' maps, but I reloaded with the 'stock' maps (the maps I saved from the bike after buying it, not sure if they're really stock or not). Both maps I have do actually have timing tables, but for some reason on the bike they were zero.

I again attempted to start with the reloaded maps but still got nothing. I double checked the maps, and there for sure is now a proper timing table.

Could the bike having run with a screwed up timing table before caused any issues? I was thinking valves could've gotten screwed and compression now messed up? But the bike was able to run with throttle input, so I'm assuming all the necessities are there (spark, fuel, compression, timing, etc...). I can do a compression test if you guys think its necessary, but I don't think the compression is an issue.

I still have yet to refuel the bike. I'll have to run to a gas station another day. The gas is only about a month old in the tank, though. When I drain the tank I'll try to clean the post-filter lines as well. Pipe cleaner should do just fine for that I'm thinking? I did look down them when they were off the bike and they did look fine, however.

What was the AFV after the bad injectors and fuel pump?

Also, with most Buells I see once the plugs have fouled they are never good again.
And you should check fuel pressure, needs 55 IIRC

It might be time to go back to the basics and do a compression test, if you have already verified the cam position sensor is not melted. When they go, they work cold and then cut out as they warm, so the fact that yours works cold is not definitive.
