Okay, here's the deal.....I want an underseat tray for my S1W. Because I haven't been able to find one ANYWHERE (both USA and Europe), I figured I'd just make my own. Now, I've come to realize I'm not good at carving foam into nice smooth shapes. Here's where you can help....if you have an underseat tray, would you consider loaning it to me to make a mold. I'll pay you a deposit and shipping in both directions. Anyone willing to help??? Thanks! Dennis |

Lake: Carving the buck is indeed the hard part. What I did on my S2 tail was to get it fairly close by carving, then did some shaping with a surform file (cheese-grater), then smoothed it out using plaster of paris. Then I laid the mat and resin over the buck until I had it thick enough to be strong--5 or 6 layers of mat oughta do it. Then I broke the foam/plaster buck out of the (hardened) fiberglass, trimmed the new part to fit, bonded it in place and finished it with bondo and lots of elbow grease and colorful language. I cut a cardboard template to make sure I had the shape consistent from side to side. When you think it's smooth enough to paint, squirt a thick coat of primer on it, and start sanding some more. Don't expect to finish it in one or two passes--it took me 8 or 10 iterations before I got mine where I wanted it. rt |

Bondo may make a better surface material on the buck than plaster of paris... I also suggest using cheap aerosol hairspray as a parting agent between the mold and fiberglass- BTW-- check out EBay for stock S1 seats- |

Pop--good suggestion, I wish I'd thought of that! And I've got a spare S1 seat if somebody needs one... rt |
