All, I'm having Zac from Headstrong Machining (formerly NRHS in Colorado I believe?) fix my broken front head mounting boss. I posted about this last year and in between having an autistic 9 year old girl, a three year old and a one year old, I just got around to doing this work In a previous thread it was stated that the correct top end cometic kit was the following: http://www.cometic.com/ag-1344630.1344484.1344614. 1344519-1999-harley-davidson-xl1200s-sportster-120 0-sport-evolution-big-twin.html However, I also found this gasket kit on NRHS website and it also looks to be correct: http://www.cometic.com/i-24866735-harley-davidson- evolution-sportster-1200-top-end-est-gasket-kit-3- 500-bore.html?ref=search:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cometic. com%2Fsearch.html%3Fq%3DC9763 I haven't contacted Cometic yet because I wanted to ask you guys first. Which one is correct? And for some more questions.... Is that everything I need, gasket-wise? I can't tell, but does this have both intake gaskets? The ones that were in there when I took the head off were made of some kind of wire mesh...sound right? I also remember hearing about some gasket kits that did not need O-rings in one of the gaskets because they were built it...does that ring a bell? I also plan on getting the following: https://st-paul-harley-davidson-buell.myshopify.co m/products/aa0722-1cbz-genuine-buell-front-engine- mount-to-head-bolt-b1s?variant=35642605512 and https://st-paul-harley-davidson-buell.myshopify.co m/products/ba0714-3z-genuine-buell-hardened-thick- washer-for-head-mount-swing-arm-mount-sprocketb1m? variant=35640642120 to replace the original hardware. And also this: https://st-paul-harley-davidson-buell.myshopify.co m/products/l1501-8-genuine-buell-front-mount-kit-1 995-2002-tube-frames?variant=29803655496 to replace the mount bushing. I've also seen this one too...anyone have any experience with this? http://www.dragspecialties.com/products/?productId =183783 Thanks for any help given. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing back on the road, hopefully before it starts snowing. I love this M2 so much...

that wire mesh sounds like some sort of aftermarket atomizer - can't think of anything in a stock intake tract that would be wire mesh. They were on the aftermarket for a while and probably still are. Snake oil in my opinion, but if you believe it will make you faster I won't stop you... The exhaust gaskets are sintered metal rings if that's what you mean... |

Lynrd: Yes, my mistake. I just looked it up and that's what I was talking about. Need them too I suppose! Thank you for the clarification. |

both appear to have intake and exhaust gaskets and intake manifold rubber boot. The exhaust gaskets are the silver colored flat ring. They are the newer screaming eagle type as opposed to the older conical shaped. I prefer the new style like these. They are a wire mesh type material for the exhaust gaskets. Base gaskets are usually available in different thickness and only one of those links list the spec .030 , the other link says EST whatever that is? |

Thanks Jim. I think EST stands for Extreme Sealing Technology, per the Cometic site. But, that doesn't tell one how thick the gasket is. And I don't know what's on the rear either! So I'd like to stick with the stock thickness, whatever that is (I think .030). I'm going to just call Cometic and St. Paul tomorrow and see if I can get some answers. |
