A couple requests. Would someone happen to have a shot or take a shot of the fuel switch? Part number? Source? Mine is MIA & I need to come up with one. Secondly, is there a T fitting in the fuel line from the 2 valves? Photo? Source? Again, mine is MIA. Anyone have PDF or similar parts and maintenance manual? Thanks! Ace hardware had a switch that is ... close. Fuel line route - my initial thought didn't pan out. It looks like running it down and on the outside of the rear jug to the carb is the next attempt? Parts manual - thanks for the assistance Bb DAve |

We'd need to do some digging . . . but several years ago . . . I think it was Jim Higgins . . someone dug up the O.E.M. supplier for the solenoid and fuel piping. Did you get the manuals? I may have some buried somewhere. |

@Court - I have the pdf parts manual now but IF there's a maintenance manual around ... I would be very thankful. Comparing '91 RS1200 #43 to my S2 leaves a lot of gaps. **btw Court, I sent you an email last month about the key blanks offered** Mining BadWeb I did find ref to the fuel line routing but photos would help if anyone has/had the tank off. Thanks DAve |

Thanks Brankin, that helps with the T fitting and length of fuel lines. It looks like I'll run it to the carb around the outside of the rear cylinder/frame like seen here http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/621152.html?1300160143 Was the choke/enricher pull located on the left side of the RS1200 like other carb'd Buells? When I purchased my 1989 RS1200 used, the fuel line ran up over the back cylinder, down in front of the back cylinder to the carburetor. I rerouted mine to lie just under the fairing bodywork outside of the frame, to the carburetor. Also put braided fiberglass tubing over the fuel line to protect it from heat. Fuel reserve switch is also available at NAPA. My '89 RS1200 choke/enricher cable runs over the top of the motor to the bicycle handle on the left side of the faring. The S3 carb. enricher cable is about 3" long. Goes straight Right to Left side between the cylinders with a mount bracket attached to the top motor mount. About 3 years ago I searched for the fuel solenoids and the manufacturer no longer supplied them nor could recommend a replacement. Have an open search on EBay for RS1200 parts and fortunately just found one, (took 10 years of searching); http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buell-RS-RSS-Fuel-Sending- Valve-/292138136733 Possibly user spike0055 recalls where he found it. From the epic journal . . . . 25 Years of Buell by Dave Gess and Court Canfield . . . . .
quote:Before we leave electric solenoids I need to tell you there were a couple others on the bike that controlled fuel supply. It was a typically Buell simple solution (keep in mind that the choke control on the RS-1200, like the RR-1000, was a bicycle shirt lever and cable) to the nagging problem of fumbling for a fuel petcock. The Buell employed a pair of electric solenoid operated valves. When the ignition switch was turned to the “on” position the solenoid connected to the “taller” tube in the fuel tank was opened and the fuel system was activated. When the main fuel supply was activated, there was an illuminate red rocker switch on the left side of the bodywork that, when toggled, opened the 2nd solenoid, the one with the “short” tube and provided access to the reserve fuel supply. I fondly recall eagerly waiting for my Buell to run low on fuel and that fighter pilot feeling I got when I flipped the switch, it lit up bright red and my engine suddenly roared back to life. This was the type of Buell tricks that had most the rest of the world scratching their heads . . . . some saying “why?”. . .others saying “why not?”
Too funny . . .I was searching for this thread and look what came up from September 23rd, 2007 at 5:17pm. No clue if that was the final version or a first draft. |

Afternoon Dave: Concerning the solenoids. I have ordered a new tank myself and intend to use small manual petcocks as spike0055 has done; " New message from: spike0055 (150Turquoise Star) I picked it up from a Buell dealer many years ago. I eventually went to standard gravity fed petcocks and the system worked better. A Buell dealer can probably give you the part number. You can then google the number, I m sure it will come up as a part. " This is the small manual petcock I found on ebay; http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-SPACE-SAVING-FUEL-GAS -TANK-PETCOCK-FOR-HARLEY-1-4-NPT-OPENING-SIDE-SPIG OT/322545298847?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trk sid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 |

Hey Firemanjim, Where can we get those; "Same type of solenoids used by nitrous systems"? I do not race so I do not have contacts in that community. |
