Time to change the S1 battery, and I want to avoid the adapter bracket (adding brackets just seems to run counter to what I like about this bike). In checking the vault there are some old references to sealed alternatives (like the GRT), but the numbers now seem to be obsolete. Anyone find a current battery that works with the original tray and rectifier mount? Also looking for a cheap supplier. Thanks |

Tombo, I'm using a WestCo battery purchased about 3 years ago direct from westcobattery.com in my '97 S1. I don't remember the model number but it fits in the stock tray with the stock retaining bracket and no additional adaptor brackets. If you need additional information let me know. I can take a look at it and see if there's any model number information on the battery. |

Thanks for the response Chris and Streetfighter. I have heard good things about Westco batteries so I am inclined to go that route. Chris, if you have a chance to check the number that would be great. In searching around the Internet I have found two different numbers that are suppose to fit the S1, but I suspect one of them fits the original tray and the other the adapter tray. Thanks Much, TJ |

TJ--forgot to look at the battery last night, but will do it tonight and post what I find tomorrow. I can't vouch for the quality or reliability of the battery for a Buell as I've only had it in my S1 for a couple months/a couple thousand miles (a long, boring story). I had the same model battery in a Moto Guzzi for several years with no problems, however. I'll have the battery info for you tomorrow. |

TJ, there are no identifying markings on my Westco battery. Its dimensions are 3 1/4" x 6 7/8" x 5 1/16". If I remember correctly, that's just about the exact dimensions of the stock battery. The terminals are recessed and on a 3 1/4" x 6 7/8" side. I found the original invoice for the battery, and under item number it states "12V13L" and for description, "SEALED BATTERY, AGM TYPE 12 VOLT 13 AH". It fits perfectly in my '97 S1, using the stock tray, stock retaining strap, recall battery cables, no additional brackets. I hope this is enough info to help you get the battery you need. Best of luck. |

Chris, thanks that's just what I was looking for. I found it listed on the Westco site. TJ |
