I had to change my rear tire last weekend and wanted to replace my valve stems with angled ones while I was at it, but was having a hard time finding any that would fit. I dug around online for a while but ended up not really getting anywhere. This thread points out that you need the 8mm valve stems instead of the normal 11mm. Not a huge deal as it's not hard to drill out the hole bigger. http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/2 71877.html?1176823019 But this one shows the issue of the Marchesini rims being so thick at that point, that the valve stems don't even reach the other end of the hole. He found a solution of getting the rim machined. Obviously you can get air into the normal valve stems, we've been doing it for 20 years now, but the angled ones just make life so much easier. Unfortunately taking your rims to a machine shop cancels out the convenience of the new valve stems. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/281703.html So has anyone happened to find any special angled valve stems that happen to fit in the cast Marchesini wheels without drastic modifications that can't be done in my garage? I really need a lathe. Life would be so much easier. |

You can make the part tha goes in to the rim longer by using an old stem make a 4 mm thread and use a hollow 4mm Allen screw. That way you have the stemmlong enough, I had it done for the Ulysses and worked fine with no issue |

"try this... http://www.marchesiniwheels.com/en/wheels/performa nce/Pages/ACCESSORIES.aspx" I'll have to try emailing Marchesini, the ones in that link look identical to the ones on ebay and in the second link I posted, aside from being black and having the fancy cap, so I'll assume they just fit the newer wheels. It'd be nice if they had something sitting around that would work though. The first thing that came to mind, was a recessed nut like a lot of bicycles use on their brakes. If I had a lathe I could've made something similar out of an 8mm bolt. I'll have to see if I can find a good valve stem, sounds like the hardest part of that would be getting the hole straight through the 4mm bolt without it going crooked. I'll have to get a few spares just in case. Sounds like a good rainy day project.

We've had a company here in Germany that made specially fabricated stems. All the normal ones were simply too short to be used with the Buell rims. I'm not sure if they're still selling these, since I've bought mine three years ago. Shop My M2 rims (Hope you can see the angled valve in this picture, no better one at hand) |
