Anyone know if the Deltran Lithium-Iron is any better than a Shorai? I'm seeing a Shorai LFX27L3-BS12 on amazon.com for $211 free shipping. Best value I've seen. Of course there's a open box "used" for $179 if you're willing to take your chances. Anyone have a reason not to buy it? I know back in 2011-12 there were issues but they just upped their warranty October 2016 with a press release and this posting on their website. "Shorai Inc. offers a Limited Five-Year Warranty for LFX batteries, for defects in material and/or workmanship, pertaining to sales originating and delivered within the United States. I have a battery tender brand lithium battery that I got from a local shop for around $180 when I needed a battery on a Saturday. Its listed as having a 360 CCA rating. I am not happy with it at all. Starting the bike causes the voltage to dip at the battery to the 11-12 volt range. I live in san diego, where I rarely start the bike below 60 degrees. Clearly this battery doesn't have enough capacity despite being the one recommended. Its dimensions are also slightly different from stock making not fit right. I am looking into getting a battery from this company: http://www.lithiummoto.com Mostly because the X1 battery is so prominent and I like the clear case. | ||

When did batteries get so expensive?! I haven't had to buy one in a long time, but I don't think I've ever paid over $80 or so for one. Am I missing something good with these fancy batteries? | ||

Nope, your not missing a damn thing. The previous owner of my 1200GS put some lightweight lithium battery in it not long before I bought it. It was the biggest POS battery I've ever had in anything. Leave it off the tender for more than 2 weeks....wont start Leave it parked in cold weather for a few hours.....won't start Voltage dipped far enough that it was about a 50/50 shot if my HID headlight would fire the ballast, requiring a shutdown and restart All that, and it was uber expensive. screw that. I yanked it out and put in a good old Odyssey AGM battery and haven't thought about the battery since. I still have an old PC680 from my parted out 1100RT that I converted into a portable jumper pack. It has to be almost 10 years old at this point and still starts everything I connect it to. I put the lightweight LiIon POS into my lawn tractor and it didn't last a whole season in that before I finally recycled it. I don't want to think about batteries.....I want them to work when I need it. For the S1, I just bought the cheapest name brand AGM battery I could find at the time. The lithium batteries are still pretty new, with a lot of Chinese companies making them so you often don't know what you are really getting. People have very mixed results, although all the EBRs came stock with them (some were defective). My M2 doesn't charge well and yet my AGM battery from Autozone/Advance keeps on going, year after year. I think the Buell has the Autozone and old Ninja had the Advance battery. If you sign up for their rewards program ahead of time, they often send 10-20% coupons via email. Typical price is $130-150 depending on the capacity. Riding mower was $90. Unless you really need to save a few pounds, stick with what you know won't leave you stranded, AGM. ps: all batteries are getting more expensive, as are most things. | ||

I have always used Harley AGM type seem to last a long time 5 year, but have had one last 10 years on a kick start only Harley Shovel. | ||

Most recently, my Hurdley-Durdley AGM batteries have been lasting less than a year. I think my local dealer got a batch of weaklings or something. Recently, I got a battery from batteriesunlimited in Milbury, ma and it seems to be holding up pretty good. Price was about the same and I think it was made by the same folks that made the H-D ones. Came with nicer brass spacers for the terminals too. kinda classy. | ||

The H-D OEM batteries now have horrible reviews on their own parts website. They are about $120, stores all over the US so you can pick it up/exchange same day, two year warranty. Excellent service from those, plenty of CCA and the correct size/posts. | ||

i have a few friends who use the lithiums and i plan to get one when my current battery dies. I have been told that with them, you get what you pay for. if you buy a cheap one then you will have trouble. most of the li batteries also state that in the cold it may take a few tries to get your bike to turn over. i guess using it will heat itself up and then it will turn over your motor. | ||

I have had good luck with the Duracell batteries!! In my Buell I run an earthx lithium and I highley recommend them as they have a great product with excellent customer service!! | ||

I haven't had to replace my battery yet, but I did accidentally ground out the + post while removing my exhaust. That was not a fun time and I don't recommend it to anyone, however I say all that to say this. You can rebuild the overall shape of the lead post using some electrical solder and a file. I removed the battery, put the bolt into the terminal, then just added a bunch of solder using my soldering iron. Then I removed the bolt and squared the blobby looking terminal with a coarse file then finished it with a smooth one. Looks just like the day I got it. And it is square again and makes a much better connection this way. So if you pull a bonehead move like I did, don't tell anyone and just re-shape the terminal and save the battery. On the sad side, all that sparking and heat caused by my ratchet on the + post did smoke the speed sensor. No getting around replacing that guy. Anyway, hope this helps someone out of a jam. Yep, full auto with a suppressor. Unfortunately not mine. Belongs to a friend of mine, and he has the license for both. It was just a great day at the range. | ||

If I'm not mistaken mine is an interstate. 90$. I keep a tender on it most times, also they make a small voltmeter that plugs into the tender lead so you can see either battery static voltage or alternator output at the push of a button. Mine is usually resting at 12.5 or better, charging at 14. I can honestly say that I can't remember the last time I had either a Yuasa or Interstate go bad on me. 2cents |
