I have a 2000 M2 and it is stuttering. I changed the carb and the seals, the ignition sensor. Still spitting. I think it is electrical switch somewhere. The other day it just died. I flip the on off switch a couple of times and it will restart. I will start with bypass of kickstand switch, the clutch. My guess is the on/off may be my issue: not sure how to bypass ? |

The kickstand switch is just two wires. Short them and it's bypassed. Check your grounds and battery terminals too while you're down there. |

Good lord please tell me you aren't going to start cutting and splicing wires without an electrical / service manual... Have you tried checking the fuel vent hose? If your hose is plugged, the fuel going down the carburetor can create a vacuum inside the fuel tank, stopping fuel flow until the tank can equalize. This is actually quite common. Next time it dies, simply remove the fuel cap and see if it starts immediately. If it does...problem found. |

I will look at the vent hose - thanks for idea. I recently moved to Georgia and my manual is in my garage in CA, so trying to get bike fixed while working in the parking lot of my apartment. It will be a little while before I have garage/tools/manual again. If I can short using a paper clip to diagnosis - then I at least can identify my problem. This winter saw many days of riding in the rain in ncal - I am thinking I have some water in one of the switches. |

I used to live in Florida and remember after several long rides in pouring rain that my KZ750 used to spit and sputter. Ended up having water in the fuel. Drain all the gas from the carb and tank and add some new gas plus gas treatment. We used to check fuel in the Navy daily in Jet aircraft by taking fuel samples from low point drains in a mason jar. Let the fuel sit in the jar a minute. If there is water it will settle to the bottom in a clear glob. Water will not pass through the idle jet and block flow through that jet. Switches, fuse blocks and relays can be cleaned by WD40 or contact cleaner and then use compressed air to dry them out. Hope this helps! |

Also check the "other end" of the spark plug wires, where they attach to the coil. Just make sure they are snapped down snugly. |
