So found out this mirning we lost him. I am crushed. I never personally met him but he would call me about once a month ask me about my build and help me with issues. I got real busy this spring and summer kids graduating and getting married. Time flew. Sent him an email a month ago only to find this out today. I have no excuse I should have paid more attention. Love him or hate him you will be hard pressed to find someone more dedicated to the brand! I would like to put a post together with all of his 101 classes he would send us . I have a dozen or so. I will post up what I have tonight and if anyone has others please send them to me in a pdf each one in their own please. I will do the work and get it up. Sorry you just found out about it. LaFayette was quite a "character" and a big help to the Buell community. |

RIP Buellistic. Buellistic Shared His Love For Motorcycles with anyone who asked. How many times over the years did Buellistic offer an email article to someone addressing their maintenance need? He Sent Me A Few emails over the years. Badweb and Buell Just Lost A Good Friend. |

@S1owner, I'm glad you have a collection of Lafeyette's 101's. At one point in the not to distant past Lafeyette had a computer disk meltdown and lost a bunch of his 101's. He was contacting people he had sent them to to try to recover some of them. I had a collection and I was going to post them back up after he past. Then I had my own storage meltdown and lost them all. Not really a meltdown. I was freeing up space and did an autoclean at a higher level then I meant to so it was completely self-induced and easily avoidable. <\shame>. It would be great if we could get the 101's put into the Knowledge vault under a new category, "Buellistic's 101's", or something like that. |

He is missed, his posts were always fun to read. I always pictured him as looking like Freewheeling Frank from The Fabulous, Furry Freak Brothers but no pony tail in the picture that I saw of him. He was a good man and always willing to be of assistance. |

This thread got me thinking about him again, so I have to share my favorite Buellistic story. He was instrumental in getting a bunch of us in South Carolina together. IIRC, his daughter lived here at the time (~10 years ago). The second time we met, we met near where I live in Charleston, SC for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel, and then I lead the group on a ride through the Francis Marion National Forest. We stopped for a break in Jamestown, SC and just as we were getting off our bikes, some guy pulls up on a loud Harley trike right next to Lafayette. Now this guy had to be a good 10 years younger than Lafayette, and he appeared to be sporting a "rug", and he had a "lady" on the back. After he shuts off, Lafayette looks over and loudly says "Huh- I might have to get me one of them when I get old." I'm thinking "Oh man, we're gonna have a throw-down right here." The Harley guy took the remark pretty well (well, Lafayette was probably a good foot taller than him- so maybe that helped). The rest of us were all snickering and trying not to bust out laughing. |

S1owner – what do you think about putting the PDF's on a public folder in Dropbox (or Google Drive or some service like that)? I see a couple that would be very helpful for some winter projects I'm planning |

Ken ,i got the timing plug breather pcv from Buellistic back in 2013. BUELLers: TIMING PLUG BREATHER (PCV) <100627> PARTS REQUIRED : Replace Timing plug PN 720 with a 5/16 x 3/8' Fuel Fitting from ADVANCE AUTO PARTS PN 323320.1 ... 3/8" hose and the length is determined by where you run hose to the catch container ...; PCV Valve from a CHEV Sprint Metro 3 cyl. eng. or any engine close to 74 C.I.(1200 cc) ... Oil Air Separator H-D PN 25329-91(has 5 baffles) ... INSTALLATION: The PCV Valve is placed in the most vertical position ... You put the PCV in the line so the engine can blow air out, but not suck air in... Between the PCV Valve andthe engine you place the Oil/Air Separator ... PCV valve highest point and with a one inch spacing place the oil/aie seperator ... DISCUSSION: This is old NASCAR Technology and there are those that have proved on a DYNO that they are of no help and "i" can tell you they were not improvised properly !!! ... "BUT" that is on a DYNO which is not the same as riding down the road or on the race track with all the real world variables that can occur ... WHY DID "i" INSTALL ONE ??? To decrease the pressure in the bottom end which is the closest point to it with no modifications required to the engine cases ... There is something about piston rings sealing better ... Which IMHO decrease's base gasket weeping and blow by on the motor sprocket oil seal ... Another thought, a PCV valve in the transmission breather hose that will let the engine by way of the crank shaft seal suck air in(must put a filter on the end of the hose), but not blow air out(but "i" have not tried this yet)??? The K Models(1953 to 1955) had a valve(engine/trans.) which sucked any excess oil out of the transmission because they had a "DRY CLUTCH" ... The IRON HEAD XL's(1957 to 1990) and did not have this valve(engine/trans.) and had a problem with the engine oil getting in the transmission, oil soaking the dry clutch ... EVO XL's todate have a wet clutch so engine oil getting past the motor sprocket seal are not a concern for clutch operation(but too much oil in the transmission is not good !!!)... If you have questions, feel free to ask them ??? "MAY THE OIL WEEPING BUELL NOT BE WITH YOU !!!" In BUELLing LaFayette Ljenne73c@verizon.net |

Fyi Some if these 101 are combined Some came to me as part 1 of 2 part 2 of 2 I put them in one pdf. Looking through all these and simple awed at LaFayette putting all their info a knowledge down on paper for others. Usually people know and can explain but this is another level. |

Does anyone have the one that details the stock muffler mod? Welds an extra outlet in the proper location to not destroy performance but enhances sound. I had that one but lost it. |

Hugh, thanks for that story! Ken, this is a great work you're doing to pull LaFayette's materials together. Due to a computer problem he lost much of his own work, so it exists with those who still have the emails he sent them. Look forward to seeing how this turns out. |
