So my the shock on my S3T finally gave up the ghost after about 70k miles. And on a trip to Canada with fully loaded saddlebags!! So I contacted Racetech about a rebuild. The standard price is good at $210. But I've heard that getting gold valves makes a HUGE difference (or "yuge" in Trump speak). My question...is it worth the additional $170 for an 18 y/o motorcycle? |

Are you going to ride it or look at it? Kind of answers your question doesn`t it? |

^^^ The fact that I have 5 motorcycles and this one as 70k miles should answer the "are you going to ride it question" |

70K!? that's gotta be a record. Most I ever got from a stocker is 30K Worst was the first one = 2500 miles. |

^^^ I thought about that Works shock on fleabay. It's a really huge leap from $210 and still a big leap from $380. Nate...it really started going downhill at about 65K. The loaded saddlebags put it over the edge. |

Okay...I sucked it up and bought the Works. With 3 tubers in the garage, it will live on one bike. |

Bigger leap but you stole that shock for that price and your piece of mind is worth it in the end! |

Back to square one.😡 I had an offline deal with the seller. I guess somebody bought it before he took it off. |

Having someone get your ebay or craigslist item before you always bums me out. I would just get the old shock rebuilt and keep an eye out for another Penske. Can't help you out with the gold valves... don't know the difference. |

Someone probably found out about it from this thread looking for a Penske lol. Disclaimer- not me, I don't have a tuber anymore. |

Love the Works shock, but adjusting preload is a MAJOR PITA! They even sent me some spare rubber mounts and fasteners when mine fell off. |

Back before I retired and still had money, Al helped put me on a Works. Time passed, now had 2 tubers in the garage, and the second one developed the dreaded leak. Was able to obtain a used Penske. Got ready to install it, and began to wonder what kind of shape it might be in, considering the job it had to do. Decided caution was the better part of valor, and sent it off for a tune and service. Turned out to be a wise choice, as a metering pin was bent/jammed. Just a thought. Be safe, Dave |

I loved my rebuilt revalved, dialed in for my weight and ride type stock shock with remote res. The stockers can be rebuilt to ride very well, but as others have said, will fail eventually. Then I got a Works Performance shock. It's worth the money, and if you find a killer deal you'll be pleased with the results. Plus, when the Works' seals give up it's an easier/less expensive rebuild. Sure it's a lot of peanut butter and jelly sammiches, but for someone riding as much as you, you're likely to appreciate the difference. |
