Hey guys, I'd like to revisit this subject because I either need to change back to a Gates belt or add a tensioner. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/767134.html I don't want to buy a new belt or go through the hassle of changing it and I don't want to spend $3 bills on the Free Spirits solution so... S1owner would you make another? I'll source my own XB roller, or would you be willing to share the dimensions and I'll cut my own from some 1/2" aluminum? Thanks, Scott |

why do you need a roller? A 128 tooth XB belt slips right onto a tuber with no mods. |

Really weird i posted earlier and it is gone? My piece is specific for the tension I need with the longer XB swingarm with a longer belt. So it would not work correctly. I also made a prototype out of wood till I got the placement right. You want the pulley as close to the swingarm pivot as possible. Then sent it to Purpony and he 3 d printed it and then I tried it then we made adjustments and he milled it. I Know 5-dro a site sponsor can get the free spirit tuber tensioner I talked to them. If you want to make one start with the pulley from an XB make it out of wood then find a small shop that can make it |

Hi Dan, it is because the XB belt is much stiffer and jumps the front pulley in first and second gear (see link to previous thread). Finding a single tightness that works one up, two up and when I lower the spring preload at the dragstrip that is also loose enough to not damage any bearings does not seem to be possible. |

S1owner, because I have adjustability I think that yours would work. I will take your advice though and try it with a piece of wood first to get the dims. If you want to post the distance between the 3 outer holes on yours, I could confirm whether it is viable for the std. swingarm. I also think I can reverse engineer the Free Spirits part from a picture since some of the dimensions are known I can calculate the others from them. |

If you want one like mine I would suggest contacting Purpony and see what he would charge you to make one as as far as I am concerned he owns the program. This one he made for me came with the spacers for the pulley and front bolt. But your offset may be a little diffrent. |

Also Purpony can send the drawing with measurements I may still have the 3d printed one if I do you can use it to mock it up |

Ok bought an XB tension Pulley and ordered a piece of 7075 plate aluminum. I'm working on this with a ME at work who has a small metal shop in his garage. IMO (or at least for my purposes) when doing this on a tuber with stock swingarm (with tension adjustment) you want the tension pulley close to the drive pulley (not close to the swingarm pivot point as is the case when going to an XB swingarm) so that the belt has more teeth engaged with it. This is how it is done on the Free Spirit unit. The problem isn't tension, it is the stiffness of the belt where fewer teeth are engaged and the belt can jump. Once the belt is forced to wrap around more of the drive pulley, the belt tension can actually be loosened, which is the entire point of doing this - getting back to a "scary loose" belt using a stronger belt that the sportster one it came with. |

Free Spirits sells a tube frame belt tensioner. Would that work? |

Free Spirits sells a tube frame belt tensioner. Would that work? Yes it would, but by the time I get one delivered we are close to $300. I have almost everything I need and have only spent about $80. |

XB 2006 Goodyear belt is the proper belt for the X1. Been on mine for about ten years. I dont think it will ever break. This was the belt sold at American Sport Bike too for the tuber. |
