Why are they so different? Was it because of seal style? The lip is .045 while the kent tool and instructions in the KV show to build the tool at a .030 lip. That would fit the seal! .045 Doesnt!   Yes I need to install a seal. Need to make the tool or rent one. | ||

I use the Jims and it's diff. but works fine.Lube seal and use a piece of black pipe 1 1/8" inside Dia x 1 1/4" long and a 1" washer + crank-nut and install carefully to depth.  (Message edited by ebutch on March 08, 2016) | ||

OD is 1.872" on the Jims tool seal end. Its about an impossible fit into the seal.I could have .015" ground off, might fit the seal then. Kent tool seal end was only .030" too according to the drawing here. Maybe a factory defect. (Message edited by mmmI_grad on March 08, 2016) | ||

Apparently this is what happens when you get old...and start mixing non OEM shit with OEM shit. The seal that I referenced would fit better in the other tool. For the Jims tool, I expect the OEM seal to be perfect fit. | ||

The Kent Moore tool is still available for about $85.00 or you can rent from your HD dealer. The New Spacer 40240-89 is OBSOLETE. Better get while some still have it. Date on my package was 4-14. The Jims tool fits the older -74 seal. WE are putting in -74A now and should use a Kent moore base tool at least! Mystery Solved! The Jims tool does not fit the new seal and if forced would push it in too far! I did not have the right tool.
