The D&D full system on my '02 M2 is giving me headaches. I'm looking for quieter options. I've read that some tube frames came stock with stainless mufflers, but I can't any for sale or even a picture of one. Are they rare? Would they fit my Cyclone if I got a stock 2.5 outlet header? |

Should do. Put the stock muffler back on my '97 S3T this past summer. Much more pleasant way to get around than the bellowing V&H can. |

Thanks for all the help. The one on eBay is more what I was hoping to spend on the whole exhaust. I'll have to post in the parts wanted section. I would like to hear a stock exhaust before I commit. But if there's anything rarer than a tube frames Buell, it's one with stock exhaust! |

Stock muffler on the M2's were all painted black. Actually, I believe all the bikes from 99-02 ran the same black muffler with stainless inlet and outlet(?) with the FI bikes having a slightly different header that has the O2 sensor bung on the rear tube. The 98 S1W (White Lightning) and S3/S3T (Thunderbolt) ran that brushed stainless muffler you're looking at on ebay. Hopefully that info will help you broaden your search a bit and find a more affordable muffler. Stock muffler is much quieter, but still deep and rich. |

Is the S1W a 2 or 2.5 inch collector? I've done as much research as I can on the subject and it looks like stock or the Supertrapp IDS are my best options. |

Even though the 98 is 2.5" I believe the pipe isn't cross compatible because the headers are quite different from the 98 to the 99+ model year bikes. I really like my bike's Supertrapp IDS muffler. Tune-able for flow and volume, and very robustly built compared to many of the other mufflers. |

Man that White Brothers rear mount looks pretty robust, compared the th V&H. And also got discs ? Are they tuneable? The SuperTrapp tunes out power much faster than sound. |

The hanger is really tough, they sometimes tear out at the weld to the aluminum body. Some have complained about those failures, but if you mount the system loose and then tighten up each section a bit at a time to keep from stressing any specific components up they are okay. I had one for a couple years, didn't like the mess the 360 degree outlet made of my bike. I bought a shield from White Bros that wrapped over the top and shock side that helped. Still, I could never get over the exhaust fumes sitting at lights, they just drift right up and into my helmet because of the way it's designed. Since my riding was mostly commuting with lots of lights I eventually got rid of it. Tended to make my left foot hot on the freeway too, especially when I wore my Sidi sport boots. |

Never had an issue with my white bros can. They do need a 90 degree elbow in the front. As stated above as long as you install the system loose its all good. Love love loved it came of like butter for repair on the bike. Is tunable with disks still available have seen a elbow 90 used on them also pushing the heat and sound. |

Even though the 98 is 2.5" I believe the pipe isn't cross compatible because the headers are quite different from the 98 to the 99+ model year bikes. That nagging thought was in the back of my head all afternoon. Thanks for confirming my thoughts! 1313 |

S1 owner , i wish i had that white Brothers E pipe!!!! do you think they would fit to the D&D headers? as these seem to me to be like factory race pipe with a straight muffler like the e Pipe, or am i wrong? |

Looks like I'm mistaken on that, unless you had to cut the elbow off and reweld to adjust the angle? |

The HEADER is year-specific. The MUFFLER will work, regardless of year, as long as it is the same inlet size (2" or 2.5") and orientation (straight or elbow). The only exception to this is the factory 2" S2 header and muffler; they are their own animal (rear-facing 2" collector; straight 2" muffler inlet). I thought this was going to be posted to the KV years ago....: 95-96 S2/S2T are an S-bend header and have a 2", rear-facing collector and a straight 2" muffler inlet. Pre-99 NON-thunderstorm bikes have an S-bend header with a 2" cross-bike-facing collector, and a 2" elbow-inlet muffler. Pre-99 Thunderstorm bikes have an S-bend header with a 2.5" cross-bike-facing collector, and a 2.5" elbow-inlet muffler. 99-later bikes have a T-bend header with cross-bike-facing 2.5" collector, and a 2.5" elbow-inlet muffler. The ONLY variation on these is EFI bikes have an O2 sensor bung in the rear headpipe, and M2 headers are painted black steel where all others are stainless. Race headers match the bend of the stock header for the year of application (S or T bend). ALL factory race headers are 2.5" rear-facing collectors, and ALL race mufflers are straight 2.5" inlet. And, the ONLY bikes to have a stainless muffler were the 1998 S1W and S3T - the first Thunderstorm bikes. Every other stock muffler was painted steel. All race mufflers were, of course, stainless steel packable canisters. |

That said - and this being in a separate post so the prior one can be posted into the KV.... Supertrapp is also a good muffler. It is tuneable for noise and power/torque by adding/removing discs, and they do offer an "eyebrow" shield to keep crap off your motorcycle. But...AFAIK the ONLY muffler that will fit a D&D header is...the D&D. If you want a stock muffler, you're going to have to find a stock header. Actually...if you want anything other than a D&D muffler, you'll have to get a stock header because 98% of all aftermarket mufflers are designed to fit the stock headers. Find ANY factory T-bend header, it will be 2.5" and will fit, the only possible change would be having to plug the O2 bung (just leave the sensor in there as a cork, if nothing else). Then, find any 2.5" elbow-inlet muffler. I have a stock muffler on my S2 now (stock header, thunderstorm heads and pistons, X1 cams, S1W ignition). I love it. Torquey, civilized, but still has presence. I have a factory race can on my M2 and my S1W and they are *tiring* to ride. Those are short-hop motorcycles now - great power, amazing noise, but....it's NOISE. Maybe I'm getting old. |

95 S2 with a 98 S3 motor, with S2 header (2" collector): Original megaphone style Supertrapp muffler 96 S1 - KDFAB Drummer muffler 98 S1W - Borla Carbon Fiber muffler 99 X1 - KDFAB Brummer muffler 2002 S3T - new style "Buell" branded Supertrapp internally tuneable muffler I'm happy with every one of them though I would recommend a Drummer for readily available, very well made, great guy to deal with and a Borla as a follow up if you can find one....if you just want a different exhaust... |

It was a direct bolt on. I do seem to recall doing a little clearance grinding at the rear mound on the muffler or Z-bracket but not much. |

Thanks for the info Ratbuell. I knew I would need a different header, as the D&D has two separate pipes and the "collector" is in the muffler. Does anyone know if the stock muffler and the D&D use the same rear mounting point, or am I going to have to source a "z-bracket" also? |

I think with your header D Adams fellow badwebber could make something to utlize the existing header but for sure the stock header. Below is my can and pipe he made for me and a link to you tube to hear it. Just my 1 cent opinion. https://youtu.be/JjzUPhrhBjM

And that was done with a stock 2.5" header and relocating the muffler aa I know longer have a shock there so he helped me out big time |
