The RS is an amazing ride. Even though it shares geometry with later BUELL products it places the rider in a position that takes some of the the "quick" out of the handling and adds a smooth elegant element that rewards planning and smooth control input. That vague enough? Chris.... What are you thoughts? It's been years since I've ridden one daily. |

"Anyone own one of each?" I own 2 of each actually. The RS/RSS bikes put your butt right over the rear axle so it stretches your arms out more and makes for a slower steering bike. I do not like the RS position very much as it makes it feel like my front end is floatong The S2 moves you forward about 2 inches and IMO puts your arms in the perfect position for a nice comfortable ride with a good feel of the front end. I am actually faster at a track with my S2 than I am with my much more "hunched over the bars" X1 with clip-ons. But that might also have to do with me being very long in the torso. But for me the S2 is my favorite bike as far as riding position. (Message edited by buelliedan on December 18, 2015) |

Dan, I would venture to say you are probably faster on the track on your "3rd" RS. You know, the one with all the carbon fiber and 175 HP? |

Buelliedan - you have 2 RS/RSS & I have 2 Ulysses'. We need to work a deal so I can compare against my S2. :-) DAve |

I'm getting the impression that people in the know, prefer the S2 to the RSS, or at least find it more rider friendly. Am I wrong? |

I would agree with that assessment. The RS/RSS stretches you out a little more, as Dan said. If I posted my personal comment, it would appear to be plagiarism! |

Johnod, Even though I have very little seat time on an RS, and that was MANY years ago, I reached the same conclusion rather rapidly. What you've stated is the absolute best way to put it. Now that doesn't mean that I don't want to add an RSS or RS to my personal collection (ideally one that I originally built)... 1313 |

The S2 . . . which has an interesting story behind how it came to be as it was rushed into production in 1993 . was essentially and "RS for the masses" and made a couple concessions. Along with those ergonomics was a newly designed fuel tank cover and (if memory serves) one of the first times a motorcycle had exhibited negative draft without a seam down the center of the body part. It wasn't easy. 1313, BS, DL and some others spent a good deal of time crafting that ridiculous simply, yet elegant, mold that had to be dissembled to remove from the finished piece. . . using a box end wrench. The S2, for my style at the time, was the perfect riding position. When I took mine on the 37 state journey . . I'd get up early in the morning and ride until well into the dark at night on some days. There were times, even after riding 12 or 14 hours that I'd get into a town . . . like El Paso . . late at night and do a lap around the town just for grins The S2 is a joy to ride al day. |

The Harley dealer near my house has an RSS and RS in his back room. Both with less than 500 miles on them. One is blue and white the other metallic dark red. He won't sell either. Believe me, I tried many times. I have known him for more than 20 years. Stubborn bastard. |
