The factory (?) muffler on my cyclone is breaking up. What's a good choice to replace it with? Thanks! |

The Supertrapp IDS is the bee's knee's for an M2 if you can find one. |

If I was going to buy a new one, it would be from Dean. I have a stock M2 if you are interested. I had planned to go back to stock but think I am just going to repack my V&H. Robert |

The stock mufflers are pretty stout, hard to picture it "breaking up". Do you maybe have a Race Muffler? The lengths are different on the muffler and the header from stock. Stock muffler won't fit on the Race header and vice versa. |

My vance and hines has been on my bike since 97. flawless. Sounds good. I had a super trap on my S2. Super trap held up well too. quieter than the vance and hines. |

I have almost 50,000 miles on my vance and hines. hard to believe the stock muffler would break. they are like a tank. I have a couple of them on the shelf. |

My bike was used when i got it, had stock head pipe aftermarket slip on sinless steel muffler, i had the tab on the S Steel muffler break off. made stronger tab Tig welded lasted longer , got another after market stainless muffler that was new lasted for a year tab broke fixed it, never a problem with stock head pipe. just the mufflers. then got a used D&D system from a member here. it is mounted strong the headers are stainless like stock but mandrel bends, uses a steel muffler that probably weighs as much as the stock one, but seem very robust, not one problem & have ridden lot of miles with it. i won't use stainless mufflers again!! I ride in remote area's that don't always have mobile phone coverage so if it breaks i have to fix it or i'm stuck with no help, when two well made stainless mufflers crack the mount tabs. you don't give stainless a third chance. D&D for me, performs good too!! |

I tried V&H, SuperTrapp, and Drummer, and currently run the stock muffler. May try the race muffler, once I repack it. |

I need to chime in about options as well: I got my 2000 M2 with a Vance & Hines on it, and an extra used one in a box of junk parts. One is rotted right out, and the other was cracked by the front mount. The rear is held onto the bike frame with a hose clamp - original mounting hardware is gone. The one pipe that has "some" packing in it is IMHO, still too loud, and I'm having issues tuning for it, especially for below 2900 rpm (HSR42). The other pipe has the baffle rattling around inside, with no evidence of any packing. I've heard of some folks being able to graft an aftermarket glass pack or tube type muffler. I'd really like a stock exhaust, but I won't pay hundreds of dollars to buy what looks like a rusted piece of crap shipped to me in Canada. My KTM adventure muffler is too big to mount under there, but does anyone have any other "MacGyver" solutions to end up with a quality exhaust? I could use the front curved section of the V&H with the front mount on it and graft it onto a different pipe, but finding something short enough with a 2.5 inch inlet on it has been tough. |

If you are not going with a D adams and want to Mc gyver one go to summit racing and get a 2.5" inlet muffler and an elbow. This super trapp came from summit

Thanks for the picture. That would probably work. What did you mean by "If you don't go with the D Adams"? Is that an alternate source/exhaust that would work? Sorry for what must be a horribly dumb question. |

It will work just have to buy large clamps for the rear ebay has them. As far as D adams look at the 3 rd post that picture is the can he makes and it is a direct fit to the M2 that is his post pm if interested |

Thanks. the D adams looks great, but I can't afford to put it on a bike that has as many "minor" issues as mine has, especially considering the exchange rates. I'd have the only 70,000 km (+- 45,000 mile) $4,500 Buell M2 with bald tires, bad transmission, cracked body work, crappy seat. etc. etc. etc. Nice exhaust though! I think I can justify buying the cheapest Supertrapp though, instead of ordering a new baffle for the Vance & Hines. Thanks for the help! |

Everyone loves Dean's. Personally I find the V&H too loud while riding. Just seems to echo in my helmet. I did find a Supertrap kit with clamp: http://www.nichecycle.com/ncs/temp-kerker/425-2516 0-supertrapp-universal-16-muffler-2-5-inlet-by-sup ertrapp.html On the V&H, people have done different types of packing with different results. Someone posted where to get the same packing American Sport Bike was selling. When the baffle is bad, then people use a glass pack internals or make their own baffle. Seen universal baffles for sale also online. Let us know what you end up with. |

"hard to believe the stock muffler would break. they are like a tank. I have a couple of them on the shelf." -Rex Stop hogging all of the stock exhausts! I'm always browsing ebay for one, but I'm in the same boat as Resinears.... I'd love a stock exhaust, but everything on ebay is $200 and they're usually a pile of rust. Currently have the V&H, not that impressed with it but it works. I'll repack it someday and see if it quiets it down. I typically prefer stock/quiet exhausts, but I feel like a Buell has to have a bit of a rumble to it. I loved the Hawk exhaust that was on my XB, but that one was super loud too, and now that I'm getting old enough to start developing some hearing loss in one of my ears thanks to years and years of loud exhausts and no ear plugs(and I'm sure some other contributing factors), you eventually learn that maybe you can sacrifice some of the noise... Dean that exhaust is gorgeous! Don't think I've ever seen that one before. |

So, are you selling it, or just showing off? Is that the older version or the 2.5" ? Are you interested in selling the can only? |

If my memory serves me correctly, any of the exhausts with that straighter exit tube with the heat shield on it, are all the 2.5" mufflers. How'd you get the pieces off of the header that attach it to the head?? I would've assumed they were permanently trapped on the header behind those flanges at the end. It's a 2.5" off a 2001 thunderstorm engine M2. Any post-98 (and the 98 S1W and 98 S3) is a thunderstorm engine, and has a 2.5" header collector. Not sure if I'm selling it or not. I sold the OEM off my S1W years ago and half-regret it because I could have used that header on my S3 Defender restoration...but I don't see myself getting a late-frame tuber for any particular reason so... And the flanges are held on with C-clips. Let the flanges slide down the header and you see the clip by the bulge. Spread the C-clip, remove it, and the flange comes off. The flange doesn't hold the header to the head, it holds the C-clip to the bulge and that presses the header into the gasket in the head. The flange bolts simply hold it all together. |

Is there any weight difference between the OEM stainless mufflers, and the regular steel ones on the M2? What does the Dean Adams muffler weigh? I think the X1 White Lightning came with 2.5" inlet stainless muffler, maybe others. The SuperTrapp stainless weighs within a few ounces of the stock M2, but maybe it would be lighter without all those discs. (Message edited by jayvee on May 12, 2017) |

Given where the muffler is located on these motorcycles, weight isn't really an issue. It's below the centerline of the wheels so it's not a pendulum like a high-mount muffler would be, as far as leaning in and out of turns. If anything, heavier may HELP handling here because it is below the axles, thus turning that lower weight into a sort of counterbalance. If you're that worried about a couple ounces of weight, low and between the wheels like these mufflers are...eat a salad. It'll have the same effect on curb weight and handling The first-year (1998) 2.5" mufflers were stainless, on the S3 and S1W. I believe 99-up bikes all got black painted steel, but I could be wrong. M2 got black painted headers for a few years but from what I remember that was the only difference between the "budget" M2 and the rest of the product line. |

I'll build another one just to weigh it, I really don't know. Just a guess, maybe 10-12 lbs though at most. |
