I've got that same color combination on my 98 S1. You wouldn't think purple and orange would go together but they sure do.
Congratulations!

Thanks - it needs some odds n ends to get it where I'd like it (closer to Brent's motorcycles :-) )

Shock may be leaking too so I'm up for recommendations.

NICE "Rescue"...some of the ones I've rescued have looked a lot worse for sure!!!

I first saw that color combination when I was living in Denver CO, it sure looked like the Bronco's color scheme to me when released!

glad to see another bike "saved" from disassemblers and in good hands!

Dave,
Great find! Twin tail to boot!
Nuke Blue and Moulton Orange, best color combo ever!
That is the same as the one I got as a roller from Fireman Jim and put back together for a friend.

I've got a favor to ask, can you take some pictures of the twin tail sub frame?
My buddy has a twin tail and seat but no sub frame. He would like to switch to the twin tail but I would have to fab a sub frame for it.

Thanks!

Brad

Thanks Dave,

Not at all what I expected.
So, it looks like the twin tail extension slides over the existing frame. The front is held on by the two tail mounting bolts on either side of the seat screw? IS there anything that hold the back part on?

The twintail "subframe" was simple.

Unbolt the taillight from the factory frame.

Insert a spacer piece (bracket) that simply moved the taillight and turn signals back, so they weren't tucked under the twin tail bodywork.

Let me dig. I used to have (sold it years ago) a NIB twintail kit...I know I took photos at the time.

Knew I had 'em...

Everything other than that spacer (and the bodywork and seat, of course)...was plain ol' S1W frame, solo or twin, no difference.

IS there anything that hold the back part on?

Indubitably! Just like a standard S1 taillight bracket, there is a single bolt/screw that threads to a lug (OK, threaded fitting in a tab) at the back of the tail loop.

You can kind of see it (the bolt) here on this standard S1 setup.

You can see the 'lug' on the tail loop in this pic.

Googling 'Buell S1 frame' and 'Buell S1 taillight bracket' might give you some further insight,

Thanks Tim for posting the pics!

They are definitely worth more than the many words I had started to type trying to explain it all last night, that's for sure!

Have we sufficiently highjacked this thread?

It's a very worthy hijacking!

(Been on the mend recovering from bacterial pneumonia - don't ever think one can get any real sleep in the hospital)
