I'm new here and could use some help. What is the best (define as you wish) alternative to a stock ignition module, which is fairly difficult to obtain? |

The plugin socket changed starting in 2001. I could have sworn there was a Race Ignition for it, but maybe not. (Message edited by jayvee on October 07, 2015) |

Thanks. I read another thread somewhere on here (that I cannot locate right now) that got me headed in the right direction but there was confusion between the 2002 12 pin and earlier modules. Right now inexpensive would be good but maybe better is if an adjustable or non-adjustible would work better (easier, reliable, but the engine runs well). Is the price difference between the 2 justifiable? |

I have a year 2000 M2 was not aware of the change in 2001. but the Dynatech 2000 adjustable looks same as stock bolts to same mount, & is adjustable. i had the Buell performance ignition module came with my bike but i thought was too aggressive in advance, i did not want to put more shock on my roller bottom end as they can't take high shock loads. so think the dynatech the best option . there are other ignitions that adjust that bolt into the cone on end of crank. but the get too hot there so can fail. i've had mine a few years now no problem, ride all year. |

Thanks. That is very helpful, although I'll admit that I am not Mr Goodwrench (more like Mr Mechanical Moron)! I'll go with the 12 pin Dynatech 2000 adjustable. Thanks again. |

Dynatek got back to me today. To the best of their knowledge the only product that they have that would work (if it has a carb and has the standard type Sportster cases and cams) is the Dyna 2000 D2KI-1P. Will need any brand 3.0 3.0 ohm coil and will require the HD timing cup, which is bolted to your #2 intake cam, and has HD number 32402-83. They want me to let them know how this works out. Will do so and post here as well. |

Ignition modules where different between 2000 and 2001. 2000 and previous part# N0306.9A and 2001-2002 M2's and M2L was part#N0306.01A3. 2000 and previous had 1 connector and 2001-2002 had 2 connectors. |
