First of all, I would like to thank purpony for all his assistance in my project, whos knowledge was invaluble. My cyclone found me in pretty bad shape, shot voltage regulator, blown shock and forks and worst of all mismatched rims. Pm in the front and a 3 spoke in the rear, uhg. But with 10k mi I figured it was worth the 1k the seller was asking. After I got the electronics sorted and happened upon a new in box rear shock it was time to address the cosmetics. I was lucky enough to find an 03 xb9s part out that had almost all the parts I was going to need for the swap. This is what I learned while working on this swap. The pulleys and belt from 03 do not match any other years so I had to buy a 04+ rear 72t pulley. I used my stock 128t belt and 27t front pulley from my cyclone with the 72t xb pulley. Adjusters all the way in it had just enough slack for proper tension. I needed to fabricate a new headlight mount to attach to the xb top triple. The cyclone front brake line needed to be used with the xb caliper to have enough length to use with the tuber handlebars. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. To be honest, I miss the "feel" the oem equipment had. The steering radius really is much worst, its tolerable once I removed the bump stops. It looks way better though and am quite satisfied with it overall. (Message edited by joedan on September 16, 2015) |

Steering radious is drasticly reduced for sure. Removing bump stops help but if you do not have something you can do some pretty easy frame damage as I did. I added stops on me head tube to work with the factory bottom tree. How did you do your stem? Fyi factory x1 light brackets fit these tubes also. Otherwise a vrod style light hanger would work with some mods. Be carfull using the old line mixinf fluids. i had my lines made at venhill usa very nice |

Also by staying with the 72 you are really changing your gear ratio hows it affecting ride? |

Yea 11 teeth bigger in the rear, dosent feel like that much though. Its very noticeable from a stop but roll on throttle is nothing crazy, it still reluctant to loft the front unless I hit a speed bump lol. I dont have a tach but freeway rpms feel about where they should be, I always felt like I was lugging the engine before. I would often forget to shift to 6th because 5th felt better. Its the tuber stem in xb triples, sent it to purpony for that along with the rear caliper milling. (Message edited by joedan on September 16, 2015) |

'04-up rear pulleys are 65t, not 72. 72 is an 1125 pulley. |

You have a 6 speed in there? |

Looking good Jordon- glad i could help. Using the XB triple you do lose steering radius. I have designed a new set of triples for my bike that when i get some time im going to machine. They will be for XB forks with the OEM tuber location. As stated above, if you have a 72t, its off a 1125. The 04+ XB rear pulley is a 65t, and the OEM tuber pulley is a 61 tooth. Thats a big jump in gearing from 61 to 72. How tight is your belt? It should be scary loose and im thinking with the stock belt and the diameter of the 72t pulley, your belt may be running to tight. You may want to track down a 65t pulley and try that. The diameter will be smaller and may allow you some belt adjustment to let the belt run loose. im really liking the flag behind the clear timing cover. I may have to steal that idea for mine. What are you for the flag? Is it just a sticker/decal? (Message edited by purpony on September 17, 2015) |

You can look on the back of the pulley and double check the tooth count as it will be embossed in the rear side. My 65t pulley on my XB wheel conversion barely fit with enough belt slack by pushing the adjusters up. I think you likely have the 65t pulley already as a 72t would likely not fit at all. A 65t rear pulley is ~6-7% increase in RPM per speed. |

Ahh, yes I think I got confused with the 03 pulley I could not use, it is the 65t. I found it odd an 11 tooth difference would be so useable haha. I checked tension with the shock unmounted. Put the swingarm piviot inline with the front and rear pulley. With the adjusters bottomed out it was just about perfect. Yea its just a sticker, Im waiting to see if the engine heat will loosen the adhesive though. Have not been able to ride very much since I finished as I am moving out of state next week. Im going to miss these california roads... Marc, those custom triples sound like the way to go. The guy I sold all my cyclone parts to said he was going to use the tuber triples to jig up a new set. He was going to lessen the rake while keeping the headtube angle the same if that makes sense. All for looks of course. (Message edited by joedan on September 17, 2015) |

Good looking M2 joedan! Love the timing cover and American flag mod! Pur helped me with my conversion 4 or 5 years ago. Great guy with a plethora of knowledge and machining skills! |

I'm cautiously considering this XB wheel conversion on my project 98 S1W as well. Would forks from a '08-'09 XB12X address the turning radius loss? (They have the slight angle near the axle) DAve |

Dave The turning radious issue is because of the XB triples and the wide fork tubes. The XB triples puts the forks farther back. So you might be able to use S2 or S3 triples with xb forks one of those is the correct fit with the XB fork tube but not sure if the width at the wheel is correct Purpony is the man to ask The only issue with the turning radious for me is in the garage does not effect it while riding unless you want to do the figure 8 slow speed exam test that aint happening!!! |

Also gearing will be a task as there is not a xb gear to match exactly |

The turning radius loss is lost in the trees not the forks. |

I have a 65 tooth XB pulley on mine and love it! I don't do the high speed runs like I used to in my younger days. |

If you run the XB12 primary gearing with the 65t rear pulley, your gearing ends up only 4% taller than stock. |

Purpony has a tree set up coming when things settle down at work for him. I have a press in stem coming that is a tuber/XB hybrid. Basically will allow you to press this stem into XB/1125 trees with no machining to the trees. My goal is to have a kit and be able to do the swap in a weekend. Purpony has the rear caliper bracket machining down to a science! (Message edited by Red93stang on December 27, 2015) |

I'm waiting on my powder coated swing arm and mount block to come back from the coater. Two to three weeks is what he told me turn around time. Then I will be able to remove the front end again to take some final measurements to make it a production part. I would say it's a month and half out still. |

The easiest way was to convert the xb triple to fit my tuber. Make conversion pieces to install the xb swing arm, have a custom rear pulley made, have a custom pulley spacer made and a custom belt tensioner made! Then research and find a digital speedo that will work! Easy peasy! 2 yrs later you get this Just kidding!!!!!! |
