My question is the M2 I have has a black painted header I believe it is stainless because a magnet does not stick to it. So can I polish this header like my other ones they where straight forward just unsure on this one. Thanks |

Sounds like it was painted or ceramic coated. Can you scratch it easily? If so it is painted if not you will have a tough time removing the coating and most would ask why as cermic is a good thing |

It is flat black paint I removed some but it has not rusted when wet or changed colors when hot. On the spot I removed some of the paint. |

Then yes i would use a citrus stripper then sand and polish. Of course remove from bike first. |

'97 to '99 M2 header came black, then 2000+ changed to bare stainless. Don't know why they would paint stainless. I always assumed at first the M2 got cheaper regular steel to save $$, then Buell found the cost savings of a separate part weren't there, so just left out the sensor bung from the other bikes' header. Can't explain the magnet part though. |
