My S1W battery goes flat overnight, I was told it was likely the voltage regulator so changed that but its still doing it, I guess its possible the spare I used was shot too but unlikely???? I have been told that the stator's are pretty durable and its unlikely that this is the issue??. Any suggestions appreciated, I'm at sea right now but need some ideas so i know where to start when I get back thx |

I would doubt that your stator is messed up since it has to get through the regulator to reach the rest of the bike. I would suggest putting a voltmeter on it to make sure it's actually charging while you're riding it. Do you have a meter capable of measuring current? |

I borrowed a voltmeter and it i charging ok when the bike is running, also put a new battery in and bench tested that. It works fine but i leave it a few hours/over night and it goes flat |

Try attaching an ammeter in line with the hot battery wire and unplugging fuses one by one to see where the short is. |

Don't think it can be a stator problem if the battery is really being discharged while the bike is not running. A battery can have its own internal short, and bleed out it's own charge through itself. There could be a parasitic drain in the charging circuit somewhere also. |

In terms of amp hours, these batteries are pretty small. If you have a current leak, it could possibly be pretty small like under one Amp. I think your next step should be to put an ammeter in series with the battery and a terminal while the bike is off to see how much it's being drained down. If you see much of anything, start pulling fuses out til it goes down. |

Couple of questions. Is it the original S1W battery or the updated version? What Reep said, after riding it disconnect the negative terminal let it sit over night, then hook the negative back up. If it's dead you found the problem. |

Also the newer style clamp-on DC current meters are fairly inexpensive. I finally bought one a year or two ago. They really help narrow it done using it and pulling fuses or disconnecting harness connectors. |
