While I am no stranger to cycles, I haven't tinkered with a Buell thus far,
I have a BMW R75-6 which is starting to smoke a bit from the RH cylinder and a 75 XCLH which I love, But just don't enjoy it like I used to, I started looking at the Buells and found I really wanted an early Lightning for the looks, and then I found this 1999 Cyclone with a set of Thunderbolt bags, Its a one owner cycle, Always indoors and well maintained with all service books and a brand new Supertrap SS exhaust system along with the original parts,
The guy had the cycle signed twice from Eric Buell on the fairing, Unfortunately the seller is keeping that fairing and giving me the one pictured on cycle,
No leaks and runs very well with no issues,
Has the 3D graphics, I am sure he did more to it over the years he owned it which Ill figure out in the next few weeks,
Comes with lots of spare parts and never been down, 18k miles.
I took it for a long test ride and I feel as though I can take the Beemer off the road for the time being and sell the Iron head,
Ive read tons about them in the past year and feel confident that this is a good selection,
I am wondering aside from asking the seller, Can I check to see if all the recall items have been tended to? If so, Who do I call or write to?
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
It is odd how one can buy a very nice condition Cyclone for the same price as a tired unwanted Sportster 883,
Sad really,
Any pointers are appreciated !
Thank you !

Welcome, it is sad that you can pick up one of the Buell's for much less then a Harley. I got my first M2 when looking at Craigslist for a 1985 Sportster that I used to own. The next ad after the Sportster was for a 2000 M2 for $3500 w/ 7k miles. I kept going back and forth between the two ad's, they wanted about the same money for either one, the Sportster looked like it was spray painted with a rattle can, and had close to 30k miles. I never really felt comfortable on the Sportster, it seemed to cramped. Anyway welcome again, ride safely and as you have issues, ask.

Some issues:

<> drive belt needs to be loose
<> primary chain adjuster needs updating
<> to check on recalls there are still Harley / Buell Authorized service providers www.buell.com

Good Luck

Gary

In addition to what Imadog said, Front exhaust hanger should be upside down Y upgrade. Shock recall status should be able to be answered by HD.

Some bikes eat speedo sensors, if yours has a history of doing that and doesn't have the upgrade kit, $10 in parts now can save you $70+ later. If not it may be fine forever even with the original part.

Original rocker box gaskets go at about 9k (rear) and 12k miles. New metal ones go forever. Stock paper primary gasket is about a 80/20 chance of holding when you assemble, new metal one holds great and can be reused if you are careful. Crank seal will go eventually, watch for transmission fluid being shot out rear transmission vent line.

Supertrapp IDS is the bees knees for this bike, not insanely loud, nice sound and nice performance.

Oh, and updated shifter (2002 and up I think) will take a little slop out of the shifting... If you can find the Banke parts so much the better.

OK,
Im hoping to have it in front of me next week, I had to run across state the day after I bought it,
So I understand that I can just call a local Harley dealer?
Ill check on the other times mentioned as well,
Is there a suggested place on line to buy misc parts?
Thank you all !

I suggest you call a local Harley dealer that was also a Buell support dealer. Not all Harley dealers serviced/supported, or were even friendly towards Buell.

They are Thunderbolt bags, Guy welded one little bracket on each side, The bags are quick release with one thumbscrew,
So in about 1 minute or less they are removable,
They work for me since Ive been riding my BMW R75 with bags,
Peter

Great looking M2, mostly stock with tastefully done mods from the picture. Good find, congratulations, and welcome!

Heres the other side,
KNow whats really frustrating,?
I bought the bike and the next day I had to be 300 miles away and for nearly 2 weeks,
Ugh,
I haven't been able to go over it and familiarize myself with it,
Driving me nuts,

Uploader not working at the moment,
Lots to do here to keep busy, Riding my BMW R75, But DANG I would to be on the Buell,
Well,
A couple more days ~ ~ ~ ~

OK
On the road and riding,
Seems like it wants country roads.
