This is a 2000 M2 , rebuilt 65% Buell, 35% Ducati. I got a lot of help reading this forum and appreciate the tech info and knowledge gained here. It just passed its UK MOT test today making it road legal. The full rebuild is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/buellcati/

Very nice. Did you repair the cylider head mount or replace the head? What are the rearsets? I'm guessing you've done this before |

Great bike.some nice touches. Is that the standard tank with carbon look or a carbon tank ? |

Jim2.....the cylinder head was replaced as the bolt breakage damage was not an economic repair for me compared to an ebay purchase of a used head. Also, a common issue was also found on removing the front barrel which had a badly corroded stud and an impossible bit of corrosion at the base. That was also a replacement with a used barrel. The rear sets are from R R Customizing in Germany. They are specifically for 2001 Cyclone and for which I needed to upgrade the shifter linkage. They fit perfectly and move the pegs back and up a little. I have worked on Sportsters and big twins before but this is my first total rebuild. V74......Yes, it is the original stock tank. I originally re-painted it and then got the wrinkle reaction . I removed all that and took it for a fresh skim coat. The effect of carbon is produced by hydrographics. The tank is dipped into a tank of water with a film on the surface and it wraps around the tank. Then some clear coat applied. I took a chance and internally sealed the tank to try and prevent future wrinkle reaction with fuel leaching through internally. Time will tell. Then plan B is an alloy tank. I had an issue with the skim coat as this went on quite thick causing a reduction in the available cap flange diameter. That needed 1.5mm taken off the diameter of the flange ring, undertaken by a local machine shop. |

That looks great Its always a good thing to see how such a rusty bike can come back in this kind of way! The headlights is the old endurance race bike style right!? That red frame looks lovely! Have lots of happy miles on it! |

Brother in buells - thanks. The headlights are called Dominator. ( have been popular on streetfighter style bikes ) |

Yes I do know that those twinlights are popular on the streetfighters ,but with the lights more on the front that is how a lot of 24hours endurance bikes had them in the 70's/80's |

V74.....the subframe was a Ducati 999. That was not an original idea of mine as I saw a Canadian Buell custom build using it and that I thought looked cool. The same day, I saw a 999 subframe on ebay for £49 and thought I would try it. me and a mate lined it up by tack welding then I had it cut by a skilled engineer and had him weld in new bosses on the lower arm. He then welded in a new hanger on the top arm with new bosses so the the sub frame could be easily removed. That obviously needed a new oil tank but the welder that was doing this for me was really skilled and he made up the alloy tank so it could be attached using original rubber well nuts from the old tank plus welding in oil line fittings so original spigots could be used. The seat unit was a Ducati race unit made in Germany and an original Ducati seat off ebay for another £50 fitted perfect. ( the ignition module, fuse box and starter relays are under the seat which needed lumps sawn off the base)

Buellcatiman , followed a link to the UK Buell sight on your build. well done. i don't like the look of belts, i prefer chain's, as do lot of long run's in remote area's no HD 24 hour road side help, your on your own. i have seen a few black snakes in rear view mirror when rev's go up & bike goes no where & you see a black snake in rear view mirror , your love affair with little rubber belts is over. i'll change to a chain. also saw you have Ducati forks thats what i would like but, my bike will never be as nice as yours, i'm always wanting to ride it so can't take longer than one month off the road. enjoy it! |

Lakes...thanks...the forks are Ducati ST2 ...photo as purchased off ebay. Original trees, milled out. Chain....every one said it would be rough and noisy but after a few miles now, I haven`t noticed any of that at all.

Buellcatiman , i'll keep my eye out for a set of those forks. i had a 2001 Dyna from new, came belt drive, i did a chain conversation , got the best chain i could & best sprockets, also had a friend make an out rigger bearing support to put the wheel bearing as close to swing arm as possible. i always keep chain clean & lubricated, did conversion in 2003 bike traveled 100,000 kilometres since as well as drag raced it, well sold to a friend as he still rides a lot & original chain & sprockets still there & in good condition. the same friend has a 1965 panhead that he road everywhere from east coast of Australia to west coast & back and sydney to far north Queensland & back that bike runs a chain, still rides it too, just bought himself a new Ducati Daivel 2015 that has a chain too. now i'm looking at buying a 2015 Ducati Monster 1200s but will not sale my Buell but will give me time to clean it up a bit too , but still thinking about the Ducati it feels like my M2 but seat an inch lower. |

Yes...belts are just so last century My first Evo Softail was a 1984, one of the first. Chain drive was a standard item with the 4 speed gear box and kicker ( HD were using their overstock during the transition from the Shovel. ) |

Let me rephrase, I think its the headlight with the flyscreen that makes it look so far stuck out. But seriously, not work bro |

Quick Q, is that the stock front wheel with Ducati rotors or is it a Ducati wheel as well? I know some Monsters and other Ducatis used the same pattern Marchesinis as the tubers, just curious as to which it is. |

Hybridmomentspass .....yes, I know what you mean..I was going to cut the fly screen and move the lower end forward but that made a big calculation on new brackets off the replaced headlight mount and I just thought I will use what I have cos I was wanting to get it on the road.. it actually looks ok when you are in front of it...but not too photogenic.....this winters project is to cut the screen and make new brackets. The lights were off ebay for $150 complete with brackets and indicators ...just plugged in using existing harness and flasher unit. Phelan... it is a Ducati front wheel which is almost the same 3 spoke as a Cyclone front wheel ...it has brembo front rotors and calipers....I actually sold the entire original front end on ebay and recovered 65% of costs on the replacement front end. S1owner...yes...Duc USD, ( but using original trees milled out ) , brembo twin rotors and calipers....needed a new 1" axle spacer and made up stainless over fender brakeline into a brembo mastercylinder...all off ebay

They are clones, I can't tell the Castalloy from the Marchesini without the logo on the spoke. The first Buells got real Marchesini, but M2 only got the clones. |
