Recently purchased a used 97 S1 and have been in the process of restoring it to its former glory. I have replaced the front mount/isolator with one from Al at American Sport Bike. But the bike has a mean vibration. I'm thinking my rear iso is the culprit after reading the numerous discussions on here about them. Thoughts?

I can't see any signs of it being torn. I think I'm going to call Al Monday and order a set just for my piece of mind. If I still have the vibration after then it will be back to the drawing board i guess. |

It's nearly torn in half. The bolt is probably rattling on the frame when you put your weight on it. |

In fact, it is hitting the frame. I can see the marks on the bolt. |

That isolator is in bad shape. Al will have the newer larger style and that is what you want. You also want to use the newer style bolts. If you are going to do the job yourself then I would take Buellistic up on his offer. There are many ways to do this job and you want the latest methods. My S1 was the original test mule for the ATC method (which I have continued to use) but there are other methods that look simpler. |

Is that how a typical fail isolator would appear ? Or is that an extreme ? I just look at my S1 and its isolators looks nothing like this case. Roderick |

Yes, that's the failure mode. The new style isolator has ears/tabs on the bottom to keep the frame from dropping down too far in the event of a tear. But they're also much stronger than the originals and will likely never need to be replaced again. |

That is a textbook picture of a torn isolator, call Al. |
