My bike just started shutting down when it gets hot. It has a light sputter like its gasping for air or fuel and then shuts down. It won't restart until it cools down. |

Check continuity in the primary and secondary coil windings when it's hot and exhibiting this symptom. |

Maybe the fuel tank ventilation is clogged. Open the fuel cap when engine begins to stall and see if it helps. |

Hootowl- Is there a given range I should look for? Xldevil- I'll try that too, I also have a second gas cap I can swap out and see. |

"Is there a given range I should look for?" Should be pretty much a dead short. Maybe 1-5 ohms. If the coil has a cracked winding, and is opening up when it gets hot, it'll look open. If you're reading KOhms, or MOhms, something is wrong. The fuel tank vent is a good idea too. That'll starve it for fuel, as would a stuck float. |

"I also have a second gas cap I can swap out and see." Not a gas cap problem, it's the gas tank vent that might be the issue. If the vent is stuck closed, or the vent tube is clogged (damn mud wasps) you'll get a vacuum in the tank, inhibiting fuel flow to the float bowl. Opening up the gas cap relieves the vacuum. |

Sounds dumb but check the kickstand safety switch my S1 would do that I would wait 5-10 min and it would start again |

Another one for the record books.... Whilst running the tank vent line for the X1 yesterday, something told me to blow in & chk if it was clogged... Very clogged up by the vent w varnish crud, stiff piece of wire & a shot of carb cleaner & all clear. just something to keep in mind |

another spot to check is the VR cable running behind the oil pump. The pump has some pretty sharp stock fittings which over time can rub a spot in the VR cable, once the bike gets warm the oily spooge that's typically around there starts to flow and causes intermittent ground faults... |

I had this happen on two Buell M2s. Both times it was the cam position sensor. Might be worth looking into. |
