NHRS 1250 kit, P&P heads, Andrews N4 cams, polished intake, HSR42 carb, Supertrapp slip on, XB rocker box conversion.

Looking to make it a little peppier but not too radical.

I've been thinking about doing this for about three years.

I have a buddy who has been looking over my shoulder making sure I don't do anything stupid.

Very nice, Keep it up )

Zip lock bags sure do come in handy )

I had a gig last fall installing 14 jet way bridges ay JFK airport, all of the hardware came in nice heavy duty zip locks of all sizes, needless to say I acquired everyone I could get my hands on, I would guess 750-1000 ) I can't wait until the spring, supposed to do 30 more at LGA )

BTW.. no idea about the dates in cases ...

Did discover that the hydraulic lifters are just about the same size as the ones from the Ford V-8 my buddy is rebuilding.

Is it wrinkle black or gloss? Starting to come together!
So engine black with polished bits, i suppose?

It's VHT Case Paint with Satin Clear over top.

Didn't want glossy but didn't want flat either. This is in between.

Yes the plan is black case, jugs and heads with brushed finish primary, cam cover, rocker boxes, and rocker box covers.

Looking great so far. I guess you're honing the cylinders and going with new rings, valve job, and put it back together?

Any other mods/improvements?

Sweet. Sorry about your house troubles causing a delay in the rebuild schedule.

Case paint done. Mostly happy. Being anal retentive and OCD sucks. I only see the little issues here and there.

Looking good.

Did you get your transmission bearing replaced yet? Hopefully that was relatively inexpensive.

When You say brushed finish for various covers were you talking about an applied finish or actually using a wire brush on a grinder? After seeing my rocker boxes M2NC did his with a wire wheel, 6" brass or steel wire wheel on a pedestal grinder, looks good and is in expensive, I would clear the cam case and primary case as they see road films and the wired finish may catch and hold dirt from the road.

BTW the paint job on the cases looks real good,

I think it came out pretty good.

A little seat reshaping:

You can see from the bottom vs stock how much I trimmed off:

Will be sending it off to have new foam attached to the base and built up from the stock seat pan.

I tried not to get 15 year old butt sweat in my mouth as I pulled the old cover off. : |

Unless it was a perforated vinyl you're probably gonna be okay!

Looks really great Jeremy, making me think more carefully about doing mine sooner than later. That engine treatment is going to look awesome!

Not looking to replicate this shape, but build something similar. I'm going to have them to add a little mass to the back end to make the overall shape less "tadpole-ish" and little more cafe-ish.

If you look, you can actually see the butt cheek marks on the old seat. Evidently, the previous owner was lonely. : D

Very nice!

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I am doing a similar project on my Sportster and was debating doing the cases myself (powder coating everything else). Seeing your work has motivated me to do the cases and jugs myself instead of paying someone. Great work!

BTW: I also have bagged and tagged all the parts. Loves me some zip locks and a sharpie...

Powdercoating would definitely provide a better outcome, but This was probably the next best thing. If I had it to do over again, I would probably try to rig up a vertical "lazy susan" style stand. That way it would be easier to rotate the engine to get all the nooks and crannies. There are spots I didn't get perfect. By the time I strap everything back on, you won't see them.

Black is also harder to do than a lighter color. HIGHLY recommend the VHT Cast Iron color. If/when I do another, I'll do the cases in that color.
