So it's just a sticker but there's been one there for close to ten years now.  It is getting tired these days...burning oil and a bit more clattery than usual. Hopefully it'll hold out until I can come up with a replacement. | ||

Rick, That bike is not replaceable! ,why not getting another (overhauled) engine and keep riding it! | ||

Hey, the front brakes are thirsty.They need their fluid. The 'ol S1 needs a bit of work. It definitely needs a top end refreshing, some minor crankcase repair, the rear shock is blown, the tach has been killed by water intrusion, the steering head and swingarm bearings need some attention, and cosmetically everything needs some work. It likely needs an oil pump and the state of the bottom end is a question mark at this point. It needs a good season off. We've been putting money away and there could very well be another Buell in the stable. As a daily ride I can't afford any down time unless I want to do 50+ miles a day on a mountain bike. As much as I love my S1, I could use something a bit more practical that can rack up the miles with a little less drama. While it has been the absolute funnest motorcycle I've rode to date and handles like a dream when the rear shock isn't blown, with close to 15K miles a year in just commuting the little stuff that goes wrong piles up when there's little to no down time to fix it. I'm getting too old for this stuff...JK. The S1 will always be around. I just don't think it'll be my primary ride for much longer. | ||

Get a Ulysses and use the S1 as your hot rod. That's what I did. Though I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of the Uly. As it sits now, it outperforms my S2 in everything except looks. But I'm looking to change that soon  . | ||

The Uly is nice, but a little too soft for me. I'd go Super TT if going that route. My intentions were to get a motard of some sort, but with some straight line miles thrown in the current commute a livelier twin makes more sense. | ||

Super TT with heated grips and a little more wind/weather protection was about perfect for commuting. LOVED mine, just couldn't afford it, whatever you go with, hope it treats you well! | ||

I've been struggling with that decision for the past few years. The wife likes this:  That was my childhood favorite. According to long term owners they can rack up miles effortlessly for hundreds of thousands of miles with minimal fuss. The kid likes this...  ...and affectionately calls it the "Duck Bike." It's an almost perfect "street tard." There's several I've had intentions for:  There's a couple less than fully practical dream bikes:   A bit more modern...and practical...  ...and of course, the Buells...   The most entertaining bikes I've rode to date have been the V-twin naked bikes like the Ducati Streetfighter and Aprilia Tuono. | ||

Some fun looking options there! I really enjoyed riding the Aprilia RSV, Tuono has got to be a blast too. You have far more eclectic taste than I do, but the they all look like a good time, particularly the ugly beemer up top and the modern one. Some day I'd like to see how I'd do on a DR-Z | ||

Rode a stock DRZ. Quite fun on surface streets. Almost an ideal close range commuter. It sucks in high winds, on highways, and believe it or not...going fast over rough roads. It's so light it'll move around a lot more than I'm used to. Maybe better suspension would help. For me it felt a little small and a bit too "flighty." The KTM 625/640's feel perfect in all respects as far as my tastes are concerned. I've admired the early K bikes since I saw one parked outside of an office building in the mid 80's. They are so quirky it's cool. I'd be afraid of not having enough power, and they are all getting up in age. |
