Hi guys,I've only had my X1 Lightning for a few weeks, but I am really loving it. However, my shock is bagged and leaking. I would like to know if the 16.5 inch center to center is as measure installed on the bike, or off it? I think I am measuring around 15 inches center to center with the shock on the bike. Does that mean the shock on my '99 has been swapped already, or is that the installed length of the 16.5 shock? |

Visual inspection/comparison per this image should be able to reveal the truth. I'd suspect - from your measurements - that you've already got the shorter shock on your X1, 1313 |

Hmmm...judging by the picture, I have the original 16.5" version, with the screwed on cast eye. |

You will have to change the front mount to use the shorter one. |

Is there an advantage to the shorter shock? |

I just picked up a used 16.5 incher on ebay and had it shipped to Racecraft for a rebuild. This way I can keep riding, and decide what to do with my stocker later. |

"Is there an advantage to the shorter shock?" From what I have read, the longer shock can potentially break into two pieces, so there is a reinforcing kit to prevent it. The shorter shock does not break. |
