Trying to cut-down the plastic tailpiece, the Dremel cutting blade leaves a flat edge sort of perpendicular to the panel. Is there a 'safe' way to get this back to a gently rounded edge like the stock plastic has? If I sand it, then I have to re-paint it, which I'm very much trying to avoid.
I was afraid to try a cigarette lighter, but that's what I was thinking. Maybe melt the edge just enough to round it?
Any trick to this, cutting without repainting?

If it's like most all other tube frame tail panels it's fiberglass, not plastic.

i have a cut M2 tailpiece that i cant give away. it needs to be painted, i did sand the edges to round them off. Let me know if you want it, you can mess with it and not ruin the one on your bike.

Use a sanding block, it will let you direct the sanding to the edge, and not scratch up the paint.

Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall this, the fuell tank is plastic right? And the rest of the bodywork is fiberglass.

The tail piece on my M2 is plastic.

Tired and not paying attention one night the garage door caught the back end of mine and cracked it under the seat.
I melted down legos with acetone to fill in the missing areas and redrilled the mounting holes.

I've seen pictures of a few trimmed rear plastics so hopefully someone will chime in but I don't see any way around repainting if you cut it down.

Google "welding plastic" and "fairing Crack repairs".

It worked really well but I did not realized the plastics were painted so using Legos was unnecessary and could use ABS plastic pipe from hardware store. I will say the yellow was close enough in color that only the knowing would really notice plus it is under the seat.

Thanks Robert,
I have cracked my M2 tail in half i am using 200mph duct tape to hold it together as i ride it a lot.
i'll get some ABS plastic pipe, and melt it , do you spread the melted plastic over the crack to join it?
how long to go hard again?

Jayvee, sorry to highjack the thread so I created a new thread on repairing the plastics.

Lakes, see the Old School Buell section for more information:
