I did a little research a while back - I have one of the long shocks and they made a kit to re-enforce the structure of the end. I think there was concern they would crack. The ends are longer than the newer short shocks. There was the same kit on ebay a while back. If you keep the shock I would keep an eye on it. I have one of the long shocks if anyone wants it for cheap along with the bracket. |

Called HD yesterday. They say the bike has had two recalls done. Fuel filter and rear brake line. They also said there was nothing wrong with my shock and swingarm, but I still needed the throttle cable clamp kit. I am lucky enough to work down the street from American Sport Bike, Al has ordered me a Penske. |

Be sure to install the cable clamp without delay. Or . . . pending receipt of the clamp, I posted . . . some years ago . . . the way I wired my throttle cables. Al will be a valuable resource. The cable recall actually DID result from a fatality. |

The cable recall actually DID result from a fatality. I want to remember Spidy went bowling for Harleys due to the cables not having the clamp. } |

This is a life safer. Nice idea with the safety wire, I will have to do something like that too! What does the safety clamp look like ? |

That throttle cable issue should never have been a recall. If the cables are adjusted properly, there's no problem. It's a case of HD being sued by someone for their own stupidity for riding an ill-maintained piece of equipment. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should have known there was a problem the first time they touched the throttle. The slop would have been readily apparent. |

What does the safety clamp look like ? This should give you an idea of the setup. There was a separate, but similar, kit for the carbed bikes. 1313 |

I'm not disagreeing with the SOT (stupid owner tricks) theory ...... I've been on board since the Audi " unintended acceleration" days. (The reason Erik had an Audi ... They were cheap at the time). There are no FMVSS crash standards for bikes but you'd be amazed (and wide eyed) and some of the testing we used to do under the "what's the dumbest thing........." doctrine. |
