So apparently mine is almost completely rounded...anyone have one laying around? Or can you suggest which one to get. I've been told the best is the Baker Drum but wanted to know if there are any other options.

IMHO, OEM parts work better in the long run for me ...

"BUT" if "i" were to buy a after market shifter drum it would be the BAKER DRUM !!!

It comes completely PRODUCT IMPROVED !!!

I think a stock sporty part would fit if that's more easy/cheap.

The real question is why is yours rounded off?

The shift drum or the detent plate? The shift drum is round stock with slots to move the gears, whereas the detent plate at the end looks a bit like a star. The older ones were a bit rounded anyway but the newer one is much better at not stopping mid-shift between the gears. Just make sure to do yourself a solid and drill a hole in the drum to bolt in the detent plate rather than holding it in place with the stock retaining clip that is known to fail, like it did in my Sportster.

The previous owners weren't the nicest to it. Slamming it into gear and such. I have been nursing it along, hoping to get it to winter before it crapped on me. (I have a fix it post in the Tuber forum) Sadly it did not. I called up the local Harley and they said they could have both the Detent Plate and the Shift Drum for ~$140. The Baker that I found online (new) is ~$260. Is it really worth all the extra money? I'm tired of putting band-aids on problems. In the next 5 years or so (if I can afford it) I plan on getting the 6 speed tranny and dropping that in.

+1 for machining the stock drum and bolting the detent plate to it. Abused mine with bad shifting for around 60k... ended up hanging a shift fork a couple times due to the pin engaged in the race rounding the top edge of the maze over which drags against the fork. Fixed with dremel (removed the portion hanging the fork. Have never had to look back after doing to effected areas.
