What was the reason for the swing arm recall specifically and do I need to worry about it? I see that mine hasn't been done along with the other recalls, the swing arm is the only one I am questioning. can recalls still be accomplished? | ||

You do not. Exactly zero motorcycles were delivered to customers with the recalled swingarm. | ||

Maybe I'm thinking of the X1? Something about the clevis. There was a swingarm recall that didn't affect any customer bikes. They were all done at the factory and the dealers on unsold bikes. My apologies for the confusion. | ||

My S1 also had the swingarm replaced as well. The S2 does have almost 40,000 miles on it though so it is probably a good one either way. (Message edited by Blks1l on August 21, 2014) | ||

Here is my 2 cents on this ... Some of the swing arms had bad welds on them and the factory did not know which ones, SO THEY DID A SHOT GUN RE-CALL AND REPLACED EVERY BODIES ... Since "i" had worked at the DEALER that would have done the recall, they allowed me to sign off on the recall and gave me a new swing arm in the box ... Since "i" had been riding double with the wife before the re-call and the welds looked good so "i" have a new spare swing arm ... "YES", "i" know the only true way to find out if the welds are good is to magnaflux the welds ... You can get this stuff in arousal cans now ... | ||

I'm looking for an early S2 pre-recall swing arm for a correct restoration on S2 #1000. Anybody have one they want to sell? PM me! My other S2, #244, still has the original swing arm and shock. No issues. Kevin | ||

The steel swingarm was due to more than just bad welds. The replacement swingarm had a gusset/yoke added between the left and right arm - at the pivot shaft tube. Of the few that I saw that were broken, they were broken where the left tube was welded to the pivot shaft tube. Some through the weld and some at the edge of the weld. The X1swingarm recall was at the clevis and was due to the material potentially being too thin. There were bikes in the X1 swingarm recall population that were retailed. | ||

If the arms are mitered and welded, it's pre-recall. If the brake anchor block is on top of the left arm, not in the arm, it's pre-recall. If the arms are bent (hydroformed) to shape, it's a recall arm. If the brake anchor is inside the arm - well- some are some aren't. If you have a pre-recall S2 arm and want a recall arm, let's talk! I want one for restoration of #1000. What shock do you have? Exposed springs, or a chrome can. Kevin | ||

If the arms are bent (hydroformed) to shape, it's a recall arm. Not 100% accurate... The OE swingarms after S2's (S1's, M2's, S3's) had the bent arms. The OE S2 swingarm is the only (Buell Motorcycle Company) tuber swingarm to have the cut and welded, angular arms. Of course, the RS and RSS swingarm was pretty similar to the S2, but they were from Buell Motor Co., Inc. Here's hoping that you find one Kevin! 1313 P.S. I'll be looking for one for you, too. | ||

I will take a look at my swingarm, I do know it doesn't have the brake block exposed on the top. I still have the WP shock. | ||

I have one that came off of my s2t. Never thought about selling it. Not sure what it's worth ... Scott |
