I have a 2000 M2 with the newer shock bracket and a M2L shock 15.5". My son still can not touch flat footed. And I really want to avoid buying a sportster. If I put one of the older 16.5" shocks on it, it should bring it down a inch or so. The 16.5 shock I bought does not have external reservour. I remember some recall. Any problems with this older type shock ? |

Actually, the difference is substantial enough that generally the tire is already digging into the frame. They made 14.7" shocks and 16.5" shocks. The 1.8" difference in length accounts for well over 3" drop in the rear (I believe it's actually closer to 5", but I don't know off-hand), because the pivot ratio is not 1:1. The better option is to have another shock mount cut and welded to be about 1/2 to 1" longer than the current mount. That will drop the bike 1.5-2.5". (Message edited by Phelan on August 11, 2014) |

Lowering a bike by changing the shock length could be very dangerous. Do your homework. |
