2000 M2....I just installed a new muffler. I am using the stock headers. The new muffler has no identifying logo. it has the elbow to connect to the header welded into it.the muffler itself is quit short, maybe 18". it has a front support that will connect to my "Y" dog bone. My question is do I need to support the rear of the muffler like my OEM? and if so looks like I will need to fabricate something due to the short length. So if you are using a short muffler how are you all supporting the rear of the muffler? | ||

Without photos, I have no idea what muffler you might have but yes. Definitely support the rear, otherwise it's a springboard/lever, pulling against the collector on your header, which will eventually cause a cracked header. | ||

not sure if you can tell from the picture but the OEM muffler rear mounting point is too far from the rear of the muffler to reuse. any suggestions on where I can mount a support or where I can buy one? thanks for the help.  | ||

Looks like what you have is half of a V&H SS2R. As cheap as those mufflers are in complete form...I wouldn't waste time trying to make some shorty version work. | ||

Thanks for the advice. it wasn't expensive. I plan to run it until it blows the packing out. Ill just speed wire the rear of the muffler up so I don't hurt the header, I just thought that maybe someone else here has supported the rear of the muffler somehow. | ||

After some dreadful bad luck (because I didn't support the muffler) a nice BWB sold me a V&H can cheap that needed some work. This is how I got it 100% functional, and may have improved the mounting in the process. I just thought that maybe someone else here has supported the rear of the muffler somehow. Most folks use a whole muffler... | ||

Make yourself a loop you can secure under the muffler end-cap, then use a long spring, like a screen door spring you'd find on the appropriate hardware isle at the Lowes/Ace/HomeDepot - I'd put the hooks on the improvised hanger and loop it through the stock mounting point, probably using some sort of rubber hose to keep the spring from abusing and being abused by the metal it runs though. Keep in mind these bikes benefit from some back-pressure, an open flow pipe will rob the engine of its potential power. | ||
