I picked this up a couple weeks ago from the original owner who won it in a drawing at the 1997 Chicago Auto Show.

I wish I had a better camera it is as clean as when it was new. A mechanic cleaned the carbs this spring, besides that it has never been touched, original right down to the tires. Taking it for a little spin was like a timewarp. Looking at the squashed tomato footpegs, the breadbox air cleaner and through the Mickey Mouse Mirrors I swear I caught a glimpse of myself in highschool, loud shirts and tight rolled jeans. When I took it for a little ride, I rode it like a Harley but it diffidently felt different/tight compared to my well seasoned 96. I think its the only S1 to roll off the line with carbon fiber tail piece and fairing, right? Did Buell ever make any other factory customs? |

Did Buell ever make any other factory customs? Affirmative! Too many to list here as I'm sure I would miss a few from the tuber days. Court was going to have a chapter on 'Special Buells' in "the book" but, for some reason, that ended up not happening. But back to the original Carbon S1. I have pics - you know, those old timey, vintage film and print type - that I took of the bike at the Chicago IMS (International Motorcycle Show) Show back in the day. If only my scanner was able to be connected to my computer, I'd scan and post the pics... DEFINITELY A GOOD SCORE! 1313 |

Oops! I remembered that I scanned them previously and had provided them to Court for the 'Special Buells' project. Get ready to take a trip back in time...
And a cropped version of one of the above:
Of all the contests I wanted to win, but wasn't eligible... 1313 |

I have the original Barney S1 tank and tail in my garage. I was pretty sad when the tank bubbled and my ex threw away the front fender. |

Hahaha . . just saw this. I actually found the "Special Buells" chapter the other day and it's so fun. It's damn sure a candidate to be revived and I'm sure Brankin and I could juice it up. Fun stuff. I can't remember NOT having a head of white hair. :-) |
