I found out why the manuals instructions were different than what i was working with, I have a nissin caliper on my s2. I would like to have the pm caliper as it should require less lever force since i believe i still have the original master cylinder. My other thought is to get a master cylinder to match the nissin caliper but still not sure the best route to take. I can't be the first person to go through this and I can't find too much info searching the forum. Any suggestions? |

There is a used one on eBay from uden (off a 97 s3 but it looks correct to me, as it's not a nissin) http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web& id=390875025658 And a brand new in box http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web& id=281359403891 |

I just put a Nissin on mine temporarily while I clean my PM and put it on my brother's bike. Lever action feels the same to me. |

Thanks for the links Jolly. I ordered the used one off ebay (not monetarialy endowed enough for the new one). Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope it is not seized. |

I have only driven the buell with the nissin caliper a few miles but it didn't feel that bad but i had nothing to compare it to. I guess i will see. |

Check to make it doesn't have stuck pistons, bad pads, or hot spots on the rotor. Those are a lot more common issues, though HD levers and M/Cs don't have the best feel anyway. I actually have 7/8" controls on mine at the moment but my last one had HD controls as well as my brother's FXD which I work on all the time lol. |

You are correct Phelan, my front brake had all of those issues, that's how I stumbled on the missmatch of the caliper. The caliper is soaking in denatured alcohol right now to try to get a couple of the pistons out and i had to drill out the bolt that goes through the holes in the pads to get them out (the pin had gauled and became one with the caliper). Now I have some time to try to wrestle the primary cover off as well as the shifter (all bolts are frozen and are soaking in a pb blaster bath). Do you know the allen bolt size for the shifter? I hate to butcher too many allen keys to find the right one that fits. |

I do not, sorry. I do know that at WalMart you can buy a set of metric and SAE up to like 1/4" or so for $.88. I usually keep a set it the fairing bag and several sets at home cuz I lose them all the time. As for the pad retaining rod, I drilled it out on a ZTL caliper I had on my last S2 and replaced it with a pin and retaining clip. Actually I made the pin by cutting off the threads of an extra long bolt, only leaving the shaft and just long enough to poke through and pin, and drilled a hole in it to put in a bent paper clip. |
