I did a search but can't seem to find another thread with this particular issue. My front brake switch is malfunctioning. At first I thought is was some bad/loose connections. Wiggled the connectors and it would randomly work. Put new ends on the connecting wires and still had same issues. Pulled a switch off my S1W and put it on the S3T. Same problems with that switch (which works fine on the S1W). Went through my parts bin and found a replacement wiring piece. Still having the same issues. If I "tap" the switches when plugged into the S3T, the brake lights will flicker. Any ideas??? |

Mine has qdcs about a foot down, but it's been rewired. I had to fix these to make mine work properly (it too was intermittent). If yours has a plug for the handlebar wiring and these go in it, the issue could be down there. |

That would make some sense. It's frustrating right now because I work about 65-70 hours per week plus another 14 hours per week of commuting time. It doesn't leave much time to solve stupid little issues like this!! Not to mention the money I'm spending on gas driving the car instead of riding the Buell |

the brake lever switch has a weep hole, water and dirt gets up there. that hole needs to be flushed with contact cleaner and blown out. Somewhere along the way someone suggested taping the hole shut to keep the junk out.. |

+1 on Dannybuell - Lake had the same issues as you describe, frustrating. Flushed it out as Danny said--initially I did it with WD40 to clean the dirt out, though heard that you are not suppose to use that as it attracts dirt later on, but initially it seems to be more aggressive in cleaning than contact cleaner. Blew out with the air compressor. Maintain once in a while with contact cleaner. |

Thanks Dannybuell & Gobadger!! I guessing that EXACTLY what's the root of the problem. When I would "tap" the switch, the lights would work properly for a pull or two before reverting back to non-operational. I'll report back when I have a few minutes to try cleaning the switch. |

The switches fail frequently, I have replaced several. In my own experience, cleaning works for awhile but it is too serious a safety issue to take a chance and a very inexpensive part. I stocked up on several and check it every spring to make sure it is working. Had more than one fail while on the road so I began making it a habit to also tap the useless rear brake when coming to a rapid stop just to ensure the brake light came on. And yes, I know the rear brake is week on purpose. |
