I just changed out my front tire today.. The thing is when I got done the steering felt a little wobbly.. I didn't even take it out of the parking lot.. I pulled back into my garage took the wheel back off double checked the mounting and everything seemed okay. Took it for other test and it seemed better but a lot quicker than I was used to. The old tire was really bad though, it was cupped and well used.

The thing that doesn't look right to me is the spacer on the disc side.

I once didn't fill my tire quite enough after changing it and it felt very weird (I felt stupid after having thought that it was the suspension or something more serious). Another thing to ensure is that you bounced the front suspension before you tightened everything down, which is supposed to align the axle. Not sure about the spacer in the photos though.

Thanks S1, I do have a manual but I couldn't tell if the axle stuck out from the spacer cup or not.

BR, I thought the same thing.. I took the wheel and tire to a local guy to mount.. I thought maybe he didn't let some air out after he set the bead.. Or just turned up the PSI to 42 (max for the tire) but it was right at 32.

That spacer and axle are normal.

This is a very good example of why one should also have the "PARTS BOOK"(along with the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL) as pictures are worth a THOUSAND WORDS !!!

Thanks Mc14,

Buellistic, I do have both. Problem is everything is in a exploded view so I couldn't tell if that gap was normal or not..

Y'all have a great 4th

I've been meaning to ask the same exact question since I had my forks (and tire) done at the dealership a few months ago. They have guy who knows old Buells inside out so I didn't bother. He also put a dab of bearing grease in that gap.

Quick update:

I got the problem salved. It turned out to be the rear shock adjustment.. I don't get it though, I never messed with it but it was way to soft.. She seems much better now.

If your old tire was bad it will affect the rear suspension your new tire could be 1/2" or better biger/taller which then puts more weight towards the back contact buellistic for suspension set up its very important.

That's a good point.. I really need to learn a little more about the kind of suspension set up.. I've owned cruisers all my life.. very simple to work with.

buellistic sent me a ton of files the other day.. I've been too busy to read it all yet but I'll check tonight before I bug him..

Funny, when my tires are worn it steers sluggishly, handles and grips poorly, and I can't wait to get another set of tires on it.
