Hello every one I just got my first Buell 2001 S3 and of course it needs new tiers! The big questions is what ones will last the longest. (and yes there is a joke in there) no other way to word it. |

Michelin Pilot Road3 or Road4. Dual compound, great tread life, amazing traction wet or dry, excellent transitions through the turns, great profile, very progressive all the way to the sidewall. Not cheap...but when you factor in treadlife, definitely worth the money. I have 10k on the set on my S2, still going strong. |

The Pilots are a great tire but a bit on the $$ side. I've run them and liked them. I've also had good luck with Bridgestone BT023's They are also a dual compound tire. I've got a set on my S2 now. They get a bit wonky when they are reaching the end of their life. Turn in is noticeably harder. Still a solid stable tire though. Depends on the $$ available I guess, that's the only reason I have the BT's on now. A bit short on funds when it was tire time. |

I'm also due for a rear tire and am wondering the same thing. |

PR3s last spring still look new with 3k on them. I don't ride a whole bunch. Front $225 mounted on the forks. Rear $210 mounted to rear rim carried in - best I can remember |

This is the same question that gets asked over and over. The answer is still the same: Pilot Road 2/3/4. I don't know what's new about the four. The two to the three was the addition of little micro-sipes for rain. I have them on three Buells and my ZX11. Love, love, love them, for all the reasons already mentioned. A significantly better wearing AND handling tire than the Dunlops and Bridgestones I ran in the past. I removed and gave away a brand new Dunlop when I bought the S3 because it handled so poorly. The Pilot Road 2 fixed things right up. |

I've used Metzeler ME880 for most of the 76K miles on my 2001 S3T. I generally get about 14K on a front and about 10K on the rear. This is a radial version, not the bias-ply found on a lot of cruisers. There are probably higher performance tires, but if you are not dragging hard parts most tires will meet your needs. These Metzeler's don't develop a flat spot if you ride a lot on the slab. I haven't had any issues with cupping on the fronts. Turn in is very responsive throughout the life of the tire. Enjoy that S3T, great bike! Barry Hollister, CA |

The difference in the 4 is compound. Same pattern, supposed to be BETTER treadlife, but they went to a silica-based compound to give the "feel" of a soft tire while keeping the wear characteristics of the dual compound construction. So says my tire shop. |

As for the $$ part...don't look at $ per tire. Look at $ per MILE. If you pay 130% price but get 200% - 250% treadlife...that's easy math right there. |

Not a great review because they didn't get to ride in the rain. They mention the front tire profile has changed http://www.sportrider.com/sportbike-gear/michelin- pilot-road-4-review |
