If I have my kickstand up and it's in gear shouldn't the bike start when I pull in the clutch? I have a slope leading up to the garage and when I park it I sometimes leave it in gear. When I go to leave I'll raise the kickstand, the engine light comes on, I hear the fuel pump but when I pull in the clutch and go to start nothing happens. I have to go to neutral. My other past bikes would allow you to do this. Is the switch bad or is it a Buell thing?

The clutch switch is an H-D thing, not only Buells. The side-stand interlock that prevents starting is a Buell thing. It sounds like you have correctly identified your problem as a clutch switch. You might get a temporary fix by spraying it with WD-40..

In other words, the bike logic thinks it is still in gear because of the failed bad switch and the interlock prevents the starter from engaging.

Could be your sidestand switch isn't working.

Jumper the two pins in the sidestand plug to test.

You can bypass the clutch switch using a paper clip so can better isolate the root cause.

Took a multimeter out to check the switch, it's bad. Bypassed the connector with a wire and sure as $h!t it started. I'll try lubing the switch. Does it get corroded and stuck or just go bad? Thanks for the help guys.

It could either way but the mechanism is quite simple. IIRC the last time I checked it was around $12.
