In the process of adding an S2 to my fold and will probably get it shipped to me since it is 10 hours away and not having much time to get it myself. Anyone have good experiences with this? Company names and cost averages etc. I know about Federal motorcycle transport. They want like $650. Bike is in Vermont and will be shipped just south of Detroit Michigan.

Try U-ship. I've not done a motorcycle but I've shipped large items with them successfully.

I had my 65 Panhead shipped to LA from Western NY for about $700 if I recall that price correctly. I used Eagle One, Larry Beachler.
info@eagleoneexpress.com

no crate needed, he has a huge tractor/trailer rig with double deck, ties down the bikes and even brought a couple of small crates of misc. parts. You may have to work with his route schedule, but your bike will arrive intact.

Thanks guys. I have an auction on U-ship right now. One guy wanted to do it for like $900. No way.

I had an X-1 shipped from New Hampshire to Texas for less than $500 using a U-ship auction. I have also used Federal before and they are on the high end of the scale.

I have used Federal on 6 ships from as far away as California and New Hampshire (to NW Florida) the price was always in the $650-700 range. Only once was anything damaged, a small dent in a Sportster tank. I got an installed quote from local HD shop of $1,050.00 and Federal's insurance mailed the check promptly with no dispute. I have not tried any other shipper.

I've used forward air twice with good results.

I attempted the U-ship option to get my Defender from ND to NC. WAY over-priced!

I ended up going with Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers, due to previous experiences and their $625 flat fee - from anywhere to anywhere is (never say never) always $625.

The only less than optimal aspect was that they only picked up 'when they were going to be in the area', but I never got that far in discussions with the other company I was looking into to know if that's how they operate as well.

My Defender wasn't (and still isn't yet...) a showpiece, so I can't judge their performance from a lack of damage perspective, and my previous experience dealt with shipping a flat blacked Softail to Germany that got customized even further once it arrived in Germany.

Hope this helps,

Jeff,

This might be a stretch but worth looking into...

As a HOG member you get a discount on bike shipping rates. Call the HOG number and get the number for bike shipping. I think I only paid 650.00 (maybe less) to have my street-glide shipped from San Francisco to DC after my coast to coast ride.

It's really worth checking into.

you have to have patience with u-ship. The 1st fews offers are always high and the auto generated bids. As time goes on, the bids get lower. I have shipped several bikes with them and normally get to around $450 from anywhere to FL.
I have a shipper from uship that I have used now outside of uship. He's dependable. He's based in Ohio and does the runs to the East Coast mostly. PM me for his contact number. He does not have one of those big pprofessional rigs, but he is good and very reaonsonable.

I used www.freightcenter.com about 2 years ago to ship my X1 from San Jose to NYC (center to center). It was under $500 back then. I've only used them that once, but had a good experience.

Freightcenter is about the same as Federal. Both around 650 to 670.

I have used Forward Air twice with good luck. About $600 from GA to WI but that was a few years ago
