It's a 2001+ S3/M2 shifter. The X1 shifter is longer. |

hoot, i found a x1 shifter,on ebay... by longer, would the two attachment pieces fit? meaning the toe piece would be set back a little further..or would the two attachments pieces not fit. thanks for your help, dan |

The piece you broke would be too long, because the pegs are semi-rearsets (further back) on an X1. |

I actually just got one of those from a user here for 30. But still looking for the aftermarket straight shifter. |

Cut the X1 shifter off just in front of the hole for the tab, then drill and tap the hole for putting that shift tab back on. You can clean the cut off end up nicely with a flat fine cut file. That's how I got the "wrong" kit to fit my bike at a nice discount anyway. |

I guess I should say mine is an X1 shifter. Can you measure yours from the pivot point to the toe peg? It looks long for a s3/m2 shifter. I also see it is mounted to the front bolt on the primary where I believe the X1 is mounted on the back bolt. (Message edited by mcelhaney14 on April 13, 2014) |

from very front to toe peg is just short of 9 inches, from the pivot point to the toe peg is just short of 7 inches. (Message edited by reducati on April 13, 2014) |

Welding really kills the strength properties of aluminum unless you reheat treat it. Here is a pic of my X1 shifter for measurement reference. So from your numbers I say the X1 piece should work. Like I said, I think I have a slightly bent one around here. How does $20 shipped sound? It's bent a little at the pivot point if I remember correctly.
