I have had this bike, 2002 cyclone for about 2 weeks and on the odd take off it feels as tho it has a bunch of teeth missing on the belt or something then grips and off we go, it is really strange. It did it twice today on the same take off,( smooth, jerk, smooth, jerk then mint for the rest of the ride) has anyone had this type of feeling or an idea of what might be the cause of this.

I disagree. They definitely do NOT "all do that".

The only one I've ever had do that had worn shift forks and was dropping in and out of first. Second thru fifth were fine.


Start in second. You'll have to slip the clutch, but see if that also does it.

Check the easy stuff first, like the belt, front sprocket.Then the grenade plate in the clutch.If you go into the clutch remove it good or bad and replace it with 2 steel plate and a fiber plate.E mail Buellistic and he will send you all the info you need(a very knowledgeable person you can trust)Good luck.

Likely worn shift dogs on the gear pair where it happens (I bet it's 2nd).

The good news is you have a cartridge transmission, so while rebuild has a LOT of steps, it's not rocket science.

My 2000 M2 didn't for 25,000 miles, then did it for 100 miles, then got fixed, and then didn't do it for another 6,000 miles until I sold it.

If it is worn dogs, it will happen only in one gear, it will happen shortly after you load it up after a shift, and will only happen once until you shift again. Feels like the belt jumped some teeth.

Cheers for the feedback guys. You are bang on Reep for how it feels and when it happens, and yes it only happens in one gear and that is first gear. As it is intermittent, is it a must fix or can I carry on enjoying the ride. How much damage will be done if it is left?

I assume it will keep getting worse and chewing up those dogs. That gear pair will have to be replaced anyway, so not a big deal there.

But unless you baby it, I'd fix it before too long, that's quite a bit of driveline shock on the belt and 5th gear drive assembly bearings.

Ok cheers guys, yeah it sure is a quite a load on things when it happens. Are there any tricks that are good to know about for repair or just follow the manual.
