I will start by saying I have hesitated to put anything else on here about my build due to the haters! I am going to post updates because there are several who had interest in what I was doing. If you have bad or negetive comments please keep them to yourselfs and respect my thoughts unless of course I ask for opinions on something. Here is where my build sits shock mount done, front end fab done, seat pan and supports 90%, belt aquired. Next step is mock up and battery tray design, 1250 kit install, fairing and light mount, rewiring. I will put a coat of spray paint on the bare metal areas and ride this year to make sure there is no further modifacation or altering needed then pull it down for full paint etc next winter. What do you expect the steering geometry numbers be when you're done? Wheelbase, rake, trail, etc. Are you trying to build them to a certain spec, or plan to adjust them after it's rolling? | ||

Its awesome! Ken, I have to say, it was seeing your original posts and Mikes which provided me the motivation to take on my project. I would love to do the swingarm conversion; however, I have too much money into my current penske set up. I'm trying to figure out where to place the oil tank on my design. I was thinking about a battery tender battery (much smaller and lighter and fabing a custom oil tank in the vicinity). Like you, I like to keep the back section completely naked. Again. Great mod! | ||

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I am also looking into the small batteries it would make more room. I have a pic at home of an S1 with a oil tank in that area i will scan it and send it to you it might help you. Jayvee I am just going with how it sits to start I will modify and adjust to fit my riding as I feel it out. That made the most sense to me. | ||

Ken, Did you take a look at antigravity batteries? They are really small, however, they are rated for race use only. Not sure what the difference is. Their smallest battery is the size of 3 C cells. Amazing. Please post the pic of the oil tank you mentioned. I came across a photo of an x1 with the oil tank on the left side of the front cylinder, don't want to do that because of restricted air flow. I was thinking of putting the tank at the rear of the seat in the shape of a cowl, but not sure if I wanted to go that route. | ||

You could also get an EBR battery, which is also very small like the antigravity batteries IIRC. You'd have to order it through an EBR dealer though. | ||

I really like the whole design but i think the area where the seat meets the tank might need to be worked a little. it looks a little harsh and abrupt to me. maybe try and blend it in more? either way i like how this is going. | ||

Ken, looks nice. When you fabricated the seat, did you make it a bit wider, keep it the same or narrow it down? | ||

Yes the seat to tank area still needs work that is the rough in. It is actually an XB seat that I have molded into shape. When done it will be a smother transition and wrapped in tan leather with a matching tan leather tank cover . When I get home I will take a top pic so you can see tha seat shape. | ||

I really like this. It has me thinking about converting to a push shock for the cost factor. However, I like the adjustible axle and shorter wheelbase, so if I do the conversion, I'll likely just weld a support brace and shock mount on my existing steel swingarm and cut off the lower shock mount. | ||

That looks more comfortable than stock. Already an improvement in my book. Keep the photos coming. The battery your looking at is a great weight reduction. For my build, I need weight and size since I might incorporate the oil tank and battery box....but I weighing three options for placement (battery box, swingarm or rear seat cowl). | ||

Top joint? What part is that? The battery will be lAid down but in the same location. | ||

This battery company have a ton of diffrent sizes they give you stock replacement when you look it up but you can call them and tell them what you need and they most likely have it. | ||

Ken, Nice work, not my cup of tea but well executed. I've never warmed up to the stubby tail thing but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the creativity and work that goes into a project like this. How much did the wheelbase increase? Maybe you could make a deep seat pan and hid a small high density battery there. Maybe the ECU too. That would keep the look really minimalist. | ||

Yes sir, I've done LOTS. In fact I have my Cyclone motor ready to put back together and back in the bike. More than welcome to come down and watch it being done. That way you can do yours.. I'm putting a XB top on my M2, cylinders, pistons, heads along with hotter cams. I haven't decided if I'm going with the XB12 or XB9 pistons though, I have both.. |
