I have been riding My X1 with no problems other than that it uses Oil like a two stroke. Well I decided to ride to Arizona from OC California. About 300 miles each way. I got out their with no problems. Shut her down and came back an hour later and it would not start. Don't know why. Had to push her. Got home same thing. My oil was super low after the 600 miles. Can't figure that out either. It was a good ride but my Vance Haynes exhaust broke and was hanging. Got that fixed still wont start. I hope I did not score my cylinders because of low oil and the compression not as high because of it. But it sounded good when it ran and it had lots of power. So? I don't know. |

Is it smoking out of the exhaust? Did the OIL light actually come on? Odd things to know about these beasties: When you turn off the engine, the oil starts to flow back into the bottom of the engine. So if you check the oil when the engine has been off for a while, it looks like you're quite low. Sometimes not even on the dipstick. I used to freak out and add oil. If you add too much oil, it pukes it out the breather. The engine will then inhale it and smoke. Back when my bike had 12,000 miles, I thought it drank a quart every 750 miles. Now I know better and it burns perhaps one quart every 5000 miles. It currently has 88,000 miles. |

You need to explain you no start condition a little better, i.e., does the starter turn with good power, does it click, etc. If the former, you need to check for spark and fuel pressure - around 50psi. You also need to rule out the sidestand and clutch safety switches. It could be a bunch of stuff before worrying about the actual engine. |

I checked everything. Could it be the long ride and the exhaust breaking? It was starting everytime before that ride. |

People take long rides on their X1s and V&H exhausts break a lot, especially the welds around the hinges, etc., and the bikes still start.. |

Are we playing 20 questions here? "It did not start" is not a symptom. Did it crank at all? Did it click? Did nothing happen when you pushed the button? CEL ON? Does it go off after 5 seconds? Can you hear the fuel pump? If you checked everything, it is obviously fixed now. Because you checked everything. So what did you actually already try? |
