I posted in the wanted ads as well... if you got a tank, I am interested. Mine is pouring oil out of one of the welds. Thanks |

Derick, I don't have a spare tank, but encountered the same problem on my first S2 at about 23,000 miles. I am not sure why, it could be inherent stresses in the original weld or a combination of that and the rubber grommets that isolate the tank from the frame getting hard or being tightened down too much. Either way, I emptied the oil tank, cleaned well and took it to a weld shop that does Aluminum for them to re-weld that seam. It worked perfect and looked great. Just an idea. Good luck! |

What I've done before as a worst-case scenario (since the seeping weld happened to me on my last bike) -drain the tank -clean around the broken weld really good -use a jagged knife or or something to roughen the texture all along the seeping weld -mix up some jb weld -apply a thin layer first, pushing it into the seam, then a final layer -let dry 24 hrs, then put back on the bike and fill Hope this helps (Message edited by Phelan on March 16, 2014) |

Neil nailed it. Just have it rewelded. Ross's JB Weld is a quick fix but I wouldn't consider it permanent. |

Like I said, worst case scenario. I couldn't find any aluminum welders here in Amarillo at the time and I rode it daily, so I did this. Ugly, but it lasted 20K and would've lasted more had I still had it. |

JB weld can be a very permanents solution for this sort of thing, just make sure everything is very clean. Most any radiator repair shop has someone who could repair that aluminum out tank. |
