Do you guys think a couple of one of these might work? They are quite bit cheaper..

Have you seen any of the threads where Lafayette (Buellistic) mentions how he added pcv valves before the XB covers were available. It appears to be working fine for him - he adapted the original covers to accept the pcv's.

Right, no I get that. But I thought he used the Blast PCV valves. I'm asking about using generic PCV valves.

I actually already have a set of polished XB rockers just for looks and elimination of a gasket.

I can't think of a reason they wouldn't work. It's just a one way valve.

I would think they would work fine.

If you open up the XB PCV, you will find the same butterfly valve that used to live in the center piece of the old rocker box. It's just a one way valve.

The $32 that HD charges is highway robbery!

When "i" bought my BLAST PCV VALVES PN 17607-00Y and GROMMET PN 17606-00Y the PCV was $6.90 ea. and the GROMMET was $2.95 ea. ...

If the STEALERSHIPS are now charging $30.00 dollars, that is a $23.10 mark up over what they got in 2000 when "i" bought them for my OEM ROCKER ARM COVERS !!!

Ross, no reason not to. They are all just one way valves. They all have the same spring pressure. If they fit, they will work...

automotive style pvc valves not designed for harley/buell head breathers. Stay with stock application or for modified engines i found KrankVents sold by et-performance.com

"AS" long as you find a PCV VALVE(s) are for a 74 C.I.(1200 cc) engine they will work just fine !!!

The PCV VALVE PN 17607-00Y probably has a PN on the casting which can be cross referenced to what ever they are used on at some AUTOMOTIVE PARTS STORE ...

i got one , one way valve from s&s made for the motor it's very small. i'm just leaving the stock head breathers adding this to crank. will test on friends dj 250i. & if i get time i'll test at drag strip.
when he tests on dyno i'll see if it makes power & torque quicker, by timing the dyno run. as in standing quarter it takes in the 11 second area & i shift 4 times i go through speed traps in 4th gear. so roughly any power & torque that takes longer than 3 seconds wide open throttle , will never get used. so the tune that see's most power & torque in less than 3 seconds is the one i choose. also looking at new pipes

I would not expect that the crankcase vent valve will add any meaningful power to the output of a 1200 cc HD engine....

I would try any auto valve, the pistons and stroke of our engines are close to a 300 inch engine so I don't see why they wont work...

Personally, I can't possibly fathom why H-D chose to make the sportster breathe from the rockers since the fluctuating pressure is under the pistons in the crank case.

Were they just trying to reduce the external plumbing to make it pretty or something?

Think about this:
In order for blow-by to make it out of the engine, it has to make its way up the pushrod tubes that are already supposed to be draining oil down.
It's no wonder that an atomized oil mist escapes the stock setup.

Oldog , not saying i'll see a gain, but like Natexlh1000 i think it's closer to where pressure is, just want to find out. & have parts ready. never seen many post about N6 cams but i had N4 stock in this M2 liked them just needed to lower cranking pressure, well 10,000kilometers with N6 i like them more top end don't seem to have lost bottom end but i always keep revs 3,000 up anyway.

Mine has the head breathers as well as an additional crankcase breather/PCV valve like the early Evo XL's.

It did not make any difference that I could notice.

Lakes IIRC the X1 is equipped with N6 or similar cams, good bottom end more juice up top

I remember Aaron doing dyno testing on all the different gizmos touted as adding HP, Krank Vent was one----no change at all.

i had a twin cam 88 ih dyna was 01 model, i used the s&s reed valve gizmo? what it does is lets pressure from crank into cam chest then stops it going back into crank, was like a two stroke Reed valve intake. i could feel the difference. but once you get used to it you forget.
never tested on dyno. but there is different ways to use a Dyno , i prefer timming & choose the tune that makes the most HP TQ in 3 seconds or less, if i see a tune that makes more HP but takes longer than 3 seconds to show up wide open throttle , i don't want it. but i'm not going to spend $ on a Dyno playing with tunes. just my friend has a Dyno Jet 250i & is interested he tested my bike a year ago just did one run no tuning as i had looked at plugs looked to be close on jetting, excellerates perfect good response . had N4 cams but cranking pressure was high , too high. but made 93HP in 3 seconds wide open in 4th gear put N6 cams in to drop cranking pressure but pressure went up. it starts easy every time & performs great more top end than N4. think my friend would like to compare the HP TQ with N6 from N4 then with one way valve from crank. in a timed Dyno test it possibly could show something but will help rings seal. taking too much pressure out of crank case and oil drops out the bore.
Oldog thats interesting to know, thanks'.
